20 year old survivor :)

by: BamaGirl

I'm an OOS girl from the South, both my parents went to Bama (Roll Tide) but settled in another state and I don't know many people who go there. I'm hoping to be a 20 year old freshman in the fall. My senior year of high school I was diagnosed with lymphoma, a type of cancer. After a long battle I'm in full remission and am so grateful to God to be able to go to college and restart my life. I can imagine that being a 20 year old freshman would make getting a bid much more difficult, but I've always wanted to have the sorority experience. I like to think I would have gotten a bid somewhere if I'd been able to rush 2 years ago. I graduated high school with a strong GPA, was super involved (cheerleader and SGA Vice President before I got sick, plus youth leader at church) and am very social. I'd really appreciate an honest response as to my chances as a 20 yo freshman, because if I have no shot I'm not sure I want to rush and end up without a bid. I'm not sure I want to deal with that rejection at this point in my life (silly as it sounds). I figured I might get a brutally honest answer on here. Thanks for your feedback!

You just gave out WAY TOO much info. Actives look down of PNM doing that on this site. On the other hand I'm so sorry you had to go through that and pray you stay well. Being a 20 year old freshman isn't a bad thing. And your cancer will not be a bad notch at all. It sounds like you have a lot of good qualities. This may sound harsh and I'm sorry if it does but you will be treated like any other PNM. Having cancer wont be get a pity bod either. Be your best strong true self and you should be fine. Get recs and send them in ASAP. Try the go to any parties you are invited to. Best of luck!

She just explained why she is a 20 year old freshman. She wasn't asking for pity or extra consideration.

Is bitter and therefore probably in a crappy house or no house at all. My sorority is considered upper mid and we wouldn't look down on you for making this post, although we might be able to pinpoint who you are, you said nothing wrong. You'll find a house you fit in with, I can pretty much promise that. Definitely go for it and rush, you won't be treated differently for any of the above reasons, at least not to my house and many/most others.

The only houses that triangulate back to Greek rank in January? You don't want to be there anyway.
