recruitment '16 help

by: Rush Chair

I was elected to be my sororities rush chair from another school, not Auburn. Since the state of Alabama is known for Greek Life I thought I would ask the experts! What makes a sororities rush successful? What can sororities do to ensure that they recruit the best? Lastly, what about a house made you feel welcomed and want to join? Any advice is welcomed and appreciated!

Image, image, image. Make sure that your house (the physical house and the girls inside) look extremely well-polished. Something that I noticed that a lot of well-liked houses here do is, they are EXTREMELY good at conversation. They make you feel special and wanted. Except for maybe a few stuck up houses, the good recruiting houses will make you feel warm and you begin to imagine yourself as a member.

Also to go along with the image thing, maintain good social media, but try not to go overboard on videos (you know what I'm talking about). Start your recruiting early.

Thank you! Can you elaborate more on how houses made you feel special & some conversation pointers! It would mean a lot!

If a chapter you walked into you were just totally blown away, what did they do? Just a side note, my school is NOT in the south, around 70 girls in the chapter, solid-middle if you were to "rank" within the other 9 sororities. During rush we have the tendency to do really amazing or really mediocre & I want to make sure its really amazing!
Our strengths: Strong Grades, Strong Sisterhood, Diverse mix of girls, Have a "good-girl" reputation, Heavily involved on campus
Our Weaknesses: Some Shy/Awkward Girls, Some girls don't seem to put their all into the chapter, Lesser known on campus, Have a "good-girl" reputation

Rush Chair, your own sorority probably has a lot of resources to help you. Be sure to carefully read any manuals that came with your office. They may even be able to send a specially trained alumna to help with your recruitment workshops. We do a first one in January or early February for newer members, then a weekend-long, all-member session in March or early April. All the things you ask about should be covered thoroughly.
And practice! Practice! Practice! Rotation (bump) groups, songs, conversation. People will hate you for making them practice, but if they practice enough, they will be able to sing, make introductions, and talk smoothly and without hesitation.
