psa to pnm's

Hey PNM's!
2nd semester is about to start and pre-rush tactics are about to kick into high gear. Some thing you need to know that I wish I was told!
1. Be careful about what you post/comment in the Bama 2020 group because there are hundreds of actives in that group.
2. Keep your social media clean (no cans, no bottles, no middle fingers)
3. Some girls have said that they think it's creepy when pnms add/follow them. Personally, when a pnm adds or follows me and they're really cute it turns out to be a good thing because I didn't know who you were until that point, and now i'm definitely going to put you on my sorority's radar.
4. Actives love comments and likes on their pictures... but don't be overwhelming or weird.
5. This year there is no Preview, only spring teas. Go to spring teas. If you absolutely can't, email the rush chairs (uapanhellenic.com) if you receive invitations. These parties give you up to 2+ hours at each house to talk to a bunch of girls, and make a first impression for rush. April 1-3.
6. Fill out the information sheet on uapanhellenic.com so sororities have your contact information to send you cards, spring tea invites, and so they know who you are.
7. RECS. A lot of girls will tell you that recs aren't necessary. Some girls have all 32 recs and don't get the house they wanted. Some girls go in with maybe 1 or 2 and land a top house it happens. The safest way to rush is to get as many as you can from women who can speak positively about you.

I just want to add my thoughts on tiers after three years in the Greek community. I am from Alabama and grew up thinking there were only two or three houses that wouldn't be embarrassing to be in. When I went through recruitment I couldn't believe girls were excited about lower houses. I was so stupid and I want to admit it once and for all.

TIERS DON'T MATTER. I am in a very top tier, "old row" house. I love most of the girls in my house and I am completely happy with how my recruitment went. But the longer I've been here the more girls I've met in other houses. I now realize that I would have been happy in ANY HOUSE. That might make my Grandma cringe but it's the truth. There are great girls everywhere and you will find girls you love in whichever house you end up in.

I've had friends that dropped out of recruitment because they couldn't see themselves in any of the houses they had left. Thank goodness that didn't happen to me because I probably would have done the same thing. But it's so stupid because Greek life is wonderful and all the houses have fun together.

So, my piece of advice is just to follow your heart and don't listen to anything about what other girls like. Don't listen to gossip or pay attention to tiers. Just find a house that loves you and you WILL fall in love with them.
