psa to pnm's

by: Active

Hey PNM's!
2nd semester is about to start and pre-rush tactics are about to kick into high gear. Some thing you need to know that I wish I was told!
1. Be careful about what you post/comment in the Bama 2020 group because there are hundreds of actives in that group.
2. Keep your social media clean (no cans, no bottles, no middle fingers)
3. Some girls have said that they think it's creepy when pnms add/follow them. Personally, when a pnm adds or follows me and they're really cute it turns out to be a good thing because I didn't know who you were until that point, and now i'm definitely going to put you on my sorority's radar.
4. Actives love comments and likes on their pictures... but don't be overwhelming or weird.
5. This year there is no Preview, only spring teas. Go to spring teas. If you absolutely can't, email the rush chairs (uapanhellenic.com) if you receive invitations. These parties give you up to 2+ hours at each house to talk to a bunch of girls, and make a first impression for rush. April 1-3.
6. Fill out the information sheet on uapanhellenic.com so sororities have your contact information to send you cards, spring tea invites, and so they know who you are.
7. RECS. A lot of girls will tell you that recs aren't necessary. Some girls have all 32 recs and don't get the house they wanted. Some girls go in with maybe 1 or 2 and land a top house it happens. The safest way to rush is to get as many as you can from women who can speak positively about you.

This is so true. Once you are in, you will have plenty of time to have a good time!

This is perfect, all PNM's should read this- and my advice- just BE YOURSELF. If you try to be someone you're not, you won't get into the right house for you and it's gonna be exhausting trying to keep up the act.

don't post on greekrank with your personal information like your hometown, gpa, involvement, or legacy status because we will figure out who you are. We don't know where you'll fit in and we don't know what your chances are at which house. Don't ask.

Keep your social media clean, but also don't lock your accounts down completely. If nobody can get a sense of who you are and what you're like, you stand a good chance of getting passed over.

Leave enough info up so that we know you are, say, Bethany Madison from Huntsville High School of Huntsville AL and not Bethany Madison from Centennial High School in Alpharetta GA.

I know for some this may be impossible, but try not to get your heart set on one specific house. Rush is not an easy week. You honestly can never tell if a house is gonna cut you or not, even if they have dirty rushed you. I know multiple girls who were dropped by a certain house on the first or second round (won't name it) after they had been bid promised earlier that summer. Just be confident in yourself and the process.

I'm an active here and this is the best damn advice for PNMs. My sister is going to being rushing at Ole Miss. Does anyone mind IF I share this thread on a few other schools?

PLEASE DO. Honestly this is everything I wish I was told before the whole rush craze began. Greekrank see's a lot of these questions anyways and it helps if we just answer them in advance.

Spring teas are invitation only, but fill out the form on the UA Panhellenic website: 2016 Fall Formal Recruitment Information Form. It's about halfway down the first page.
That will get your name on the list for all the sororities for spring party invitations.
There will be no preview day this year. Just the spring parties.

You get invited by your networking skills. I was from out of state but starting in January I reached out to actives, emailed rush chairs, found connections. Social media hype starts now so get on it!! Fill out the interest form on uapanhellenic.com so they have your info.
