aggressiveness on social media

by: pnm

I have been really surprised at how aggressive some of the top old row houses have been on social media in already trying to recruit girls. I would have thought they wouldn't have to try so hard (especially this early) since they are already so well known, but I guess they are just aggressive because they are competing for the same girls as other top houses?

Can you give specific examples without using names?

Last year one house in particular had no less than like 12 girls comment "congrats can't wait to meet you" on a pic of a pnm's acceptance to bama. Needless to say she did not go that house, although the house she did get a bid to is pretty aggressive as well. My house doesn't do this as much but I've always assumed the more "popular" houses do so pnms are under the impression that they are a top priority, which isn't always the case

It is to make girls feel wanted, but most of the time (for my house at least) it's because we actually are very interested in the girl. We wouldn't go through all that effort for a girl we didn't think would fit into our house. So I would tell pnms to take it as a positive sign if they're getting a lot of friend requests/likes/comments, but know that it doesn't necessarily mean you have a bid. It's also not the end of the world if girls aren't adding you, especially if you don't know many girls in sororities here.

Coming from someone who got quite a few friend requests and fb messages and got to rush and quickly realized those houses were definitely not interested in me, it all seems very self serving. I guess it depends on your outlook but it seems a lot less like making the pnm feel wanted and a lot more like making the house seem more desired. Which is obviously the point of rush lol, I just don't see why we have to lie about the true intention

as an active of a very aggressive house, this is exactly why we do it - so girls feel wanted. we always tell each other to go like a PNM's picture or whatever and we are already adding girls

It varies per house. Mine isn't even allowed to add pnm's on Facebook because it's "creepy," which I think is the dumbest thing ever. That's how houses really got on my map.

Do you know with what regard the Facebook requests and Insta follows will have on being invited to spring teas? I have a few Facebook requests and an Insta follow, but I'm from OOS so I dont have the connections

You never know. They could check you out on fb or insta and decide not to send an invite. Everyone needs to manage their social media carefully. Starting once your name is out there.
