How important are letters of rec and are they more important for certain houses?

For all houses. If you have 0 recs for a house, unless you're flawless in every other aspect, it's very easy for a house to cut you. It's not personal, but there are so many great girls rushing that houses have to start somewhere.

Recs are very important, but it's also worth noting that if a house wants to cut you, they will cut you, regardless of how good your rec is/how many you have. Every year there are girls with 2+ to each house who get cut to 1 or no houses. It's not super likely, but pnms need to keep this in mind.
