Why do sororities like legacies and what is the point of favoring them over someone who is not a legacy? Just wondering

Every legacy has a mom or grandmother or other relative that was a member. its a sisterhood, loyalty thing. Think of yourself later in life, if you love your sorority would you not want your daughter to have the same sort of experience and y'all can share a bond?
