For those asking, the three houses doing cob as of now are DZ DG and aphi. I have been told conflicting things about theta and zeta.

Really hope DZ decides to. I want to try and do spring and would love to have the opportunity to get to know some DZ ladies.

It is way too soon to know 100% for sure for any house. The numbers will not be turned in until January.

I agree. There are graduations that members know about now, but there are always some who decide to transfer after cozying up with the hometown honey over Christmas. A couple of weeks into January the sororities will know.

Even if they do open up, some groups won't call anybody because they already know who they want.

Kind random but relayed to spring, on the COB form should a freshman put their high school leadership, service, etc or just what they've gotten involved with on campus so far?

by: Sis

If you're a freshman, yes, put your high school info down as well as college info.

Zeta is NOT doing cob. Only 1 of their new girls has dropped simply because they transferred to a closer university.

I know a zeta that dropped because she hated all the rules.

Zeta may have gotten a better retention rate with their new girls, but that doesn't change the fact that they need to make up for all the girls who dropped last year

Theta and Zeta will be doing it unless total is changed because they are below. So are DG, DZ, and A Phi. Those houses all had problems during recruitment and are under total. Please don't start a huge hater string of replies because of this comment. If you don't know about the problems, you probably don't know many girls in those houses. Just chill...

DZ was way over quota but ok

It isn't just about quota for the pledge class. It's also about house total. Girls transfer and drop out for reasons all the time. Sometimes girls graduate early. But houses want to be at total. Meeting or breaking quota helps with that, obviously.

AT total or above.

And you know the total numbers of each house how?

I'm assuming they looked at the spring grade reports, subtracted a few for seniors and drops, and added the new pledge class. It gives a pretty accurate number.

So is DZ doing COB? I really like this house.

yes

As of right now, unless something drastically changes, the houses doing Spring are: APhi, DG, DZ, Theta, and Zeta due to being under chapter total (which is now 390-it was adjusted after Formal). And like @active said above, it's easy to look up the Spring grade reports, subtract some for last year's seniors/December grads, transfers, and drops, etc, and add this year's PC to see who is/will be under total.

Everyone always says that the houses that do COB are the ones at the low end of the tiers and some will tell you not to go for such a low house. But the truth is that all the houses at Alabama are outstanding and whatever house you choose will be amazing. Don't pay attention to the haters. You can make whatever you want to with your house.

Last spring every house other than Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Gamma Delta, and Phi Mu were below total and eligible to COB. Yet only Pi Phi, Theta, DG, DZ, Zeta and A Phi participated in COB. Of the houses that could have participated in COB, but who chose not to, Chi O, ADPi, DDD, KD, KKG, and Gamma Phi all had lower membership numbers than Pi Phi and DG. (AOPi could have participated, but was the only house with higher membership numbers than Pi Phi and DG). So a house isn't necessarily going to COB if they are below total and failing to participate in COB does not mean a house is at total. Additionally, participating in COB doesn't say anything about either strength of recruitment -- since everyone makes quota plus -- or relative member retention -- since some houses COB even when their neighbors who have fewer members choose not to COB. Some national organizations effectively require their chapters to COB if they have the opportunity and that is the biggest driver of who does and who does not COB.

Really wish every house under quota would cob. Or at least give girls wanting to do cob a shot. They could be missing out on some great girls

SAME ^^^ I don't understand why some people look down on it. Like "oh sorry we thought we'd see if we could get any more awesome girls who really want to join our sisterhood" how terrible right?
