which school

I have been accepted at both Alabama and Ole Miss. Which has the better Greek system? I am a double legacy in 2 different houses (mother and grandmother), 3.9 GPA with honors and AP classes.

Means you have two direct (sister, mother, step mother, grandmother etc) connections to ONE sorority.

Ole Miss is even more backward/Old South than Alabama.

I am a double legacy... A legacy at one house with a mother and another house with my grandmother is a double legacy. 2 legacies is a double legacy. Or a double legacy could also be both mother and grandmother were in the same house. L

You are a single legacy at 2 sororities. And for practical purposes, only at the schools that your mother and grandmother attended.

I think once you reach college you'll realize that that is not typically what "double legacy" refers to. At least not at Alabama.

I don't think you'd be considered a double legacy at any school, double legacy means TWO connections in the SAME sorority. Please don't argue with actives or your single connections to two different houses will not account for anything.

If you are from the north go to Alabama. If you are from the south go to Ole Miss. Bama greek life is more rowdy, laid back, and has a slight northern greek vibe in a lot of houses. Ole miss greek life is excellent but the whole old south vibe gets old after a while. Based on your gpa, go to Alabama. Bama is more well rounded and you can actually make good northern and southern connections as opposed to Ole Miss that has good southern connections. My northern friend went to Ole Miss and couldn't stand it.

Agree with all but Alabama definitely isn't slightly northern when it comes to Greek life. I'm from the north and Greek like in the north is so different. Alabama definitely southern but maybe not as strictly southern to the point of a little backwards as ole miss

Emphasis on slightly. Alabama greek life is still traditonal and southern. But you can't deny that Bama cuts loose more than ole miss greek life. The influx of northerns brought the rowdy scene down a bit (I'm talking big 10 greek life, not the northeast)

Yes I think she just meant Bama is more northern than Ole Miss, which it is. Doesn't make Bama northern in anyway, Ole Miss is just CRAZY traditional and strict. Bama would be the more fun choice I would say.

Honestly both are good Greek systems, Alabama's probably a little bigger and you have more of a chance at fitting in no matter where you're from than ole miss. I would focus more on academics. You sound intelligent/high achieving, and bama is the better school academically in a majority of subjects. Also, Bama is bigger than ole miss and not as isolated so that could be something to take into consideration.

Tuscaloosa is much bigger than Oxford. Alabama is a stronger school. More out of state student body . I'd pick Alabama.

Double legacies don't mean squat. Just gets you a second look....maybe.
Overall...Ole Miss sororities are harder to get into than Alabama, because there are fewer sororities at Ole Miss.
But the biggest, most in-demand groups have to release a LOT of girls the first two or three rounds, so they do it by reviewing and marking off those well in advance. Saves 'em time.
Be grateful for any group you get.
They're all great groups.
And your stats - double legacy, 3.9 with honors and AP classes? Those are met or exceeded by 60% of the girls going through.

Ole miss sororities are not harder to get into- their quota is higher than ours, with several hundred less girls rushing. Their bid rate is only slightly lower than ours
