Fraternity or sorority? Also, what year in school will you be when you transfer here? A junior? If so, I would consider the following things, for both fraternities and sororities:
You are going to be competing against mostly freshman with all of the qualifications (attractive, outstanding grades and involvement, 2+ recs to every house (for sororities), sociable and fun personalities, family/legacy connections, etc) needed to get a bid who will have 4 years to devote time and $ to the chapter, whereas you will only have 2. That will definitely limit your options, so you need to be over the top outstanding to even have a chance at getting any bid (and as such, you should be willing to give ALL houses a chance).
Also, you need to understand that if you do get a bid, you should be extremely grateful, but also realize that your pledge sisters/brothers are going to be 18 year old freshman. There is a HUGE difference in maturity regarding 18 vs 21 year olds. They are away from home for the first time and will probably be all about going out to band parties/mixers etc, while you've been there and done that (hopefully). Do you think you can bond/feel comfortable with hanging out with 18 year olds most of the time? Also, girls/guys that are sophomores and above, who are already actives, (so 19-22) will be telling you what to do, where to be, and how to act while you're a NM. Will you, at 21, be ok with "taking orders" from people that are 19 and 20? These are all things to consider.
