the machine

by: WTF

OMG I don't go here, but just read about "The Machine." I had never heard of anything like it before. Sounds like a bad comic book or an Onion article, and I can't decide whether to laugh or cry. Why y'all are kicking AGD to the curb you're still allowing TM to control your campus. Sounds like you're barking up the wrong tree. "Some" AGD sisters made a bad choice, but some didn't and I'd say the rest of Greek life made a horrible choice in allowing a small group of people to choose who you will vote for. You gave them the power, now take it back. Each chapter should support who they choose.

Agd is the only house that sold out its sister.

But all support this system that allowed it. TM was threatening to ruin them socially. All members organizations of TM are at fault.

They were the only house put in that position Next time it might be you and yours whoever the machine feels ready to throw under the bus. True, amends are trying to made for putting Phi Mu and AGD in the national spotlight that's why I feel crumbs have been tossed their way HC dance. lawn display, etc. I think What AGD was pathetic but I close my eyes and see the same thing happening to any of our houses. Sacrifice one for the glory. I think that's what martyrs do. The thing is Sacrifice will be rewarded so sit back and see what rewards AGD will reap because they played the game.

So many people hide behind their computers and judge AGD. But these are the same people who keep TM powerful! You want change? Don't make AGD your scapegoat. Instead of calling them "pathetic," take a look and ask yourself what your sorority can do differently. Don't throw them under the bus! It's time to unite!

Anyone criticizing AGD who went out and voted for the Phi Mu purely because they were told to is a total hypocrite. Pot...Kettle

We need to rethink the Machine. Maybe it worked well during the jim crow days, but it doesn't have any useful relevance in the 21st century. Until this year I never even thought about it, but now can't get over how backward it makes us look. I think it's up to our leadership to kick off the chains but they're going to have to stand up to the alums because the older generation is more set in their ways.

Panhel as an organization should adobt a policy prohibiting any house from participating in machine discussions. That would be a start. If they do, they lose their right to be on campus. That would give it teeth.

Anything else is just words.

sororitys and frats will want the machine connection every recruitment. All of these posts will disappear in a few months.

At least there are a few non- machine chapters that don't have chains.

What's coming up? SGA appointments I know.....also selections for different societies See if AGD is given several spots as payback for the SACRIFICE they made for the good of the MACHINE. This is so wrong.

And don't forget poor Phi Mu who has really got something going on. I don't really know if they deserve what they get or they are just given awards by the MACHINE. A little to consistent I think. I've watched other competitions and wondered why some of the others didn't even place. It is a hollow victory for them if they win something and everyone knows why.

Just stop with this BS. The Machine isn't even powerful. Im in a machine fraternity and I voted for the Alpha Gam for queen. We were told who to vote for but you really don't HAVE to. Stop making the machine seem bigger than it actually is.

Sororities feel the "power" and the "threats" much more than the frats - that is for sure. The sorority showed their fear of social siberia inflicted by the machine through the group chat that was released. No doubt about it in my mind, especially seeing how they are being thrown under the bus right now. I agree with the above posters that this could be any of the chapters at Auburn under different circumstances. BTW, good for you voting for who you wanted to.

If you think other universities don't have "The Machine" or something like it, you're wrong. They're basically political parties.
And the Machine had nothing to do with "Jim Crow days" (if you even understand what that means) except for the issue of blacks in sororities. Oddly enough, they didn't even apply that to fraternities. Many fraternities had admitted blacks in the past with no consequence.
The Machine is about political control...which means control of the money that SGA handles.
