Halle is pretty darned qualified and every bit as accomplished as the Phi Mu candidate.
Only thing is she is not Machine backed.
So yes, AGD is basically saying "SCREW YOU" to a sister to please the Machine. There is NO OTHER sorority at any university in this country that would act in such a way and treat a sister like that. Its disgraceful and just shows the true state of Panhellenic at UA.

And agd did this to a girl who has become a symbol of their leadership so it is not just turning their back on any member but on one of their very best-- a pioneer, an executive committee member and a major draw to their house for other future leaders. It was cowardly. So now agd reveals true soul. They are not leaders. Not brave. Not loyal. They are desperate followers. Little girls wanting desperately to be accepted by the self appointed "cool kids" that run the machine. This is just so disappointing.

My daughter will be going thru rush as a highly qualified legacy and AGD is one she has already marked off. She would rather NOT be in any sorority than in one that does things like this to one of their own sisters.

This is on ALL of the sororities not just AGD. They ALL allow TM to dictate their choices, in not only this but many campus elections. Unfortunately, most of the sororities would have probably done the same thing because they are so worried about their social status. And PNMS need to realize you have very little say where you end up, so watch you p's and q's.

From what I understand, if alpha gam were to support a candidate, it would have been MHT, not Halle. If they had supported a candidate, halle would have had to be sponsored by blend anyway. When the machine picked katelyn MHT decided not to run and alpha gam decided not to sponsor anyone. So it is an unfortunate situation but apparently alpha gam had already decided to vote matchine when Halle decided to run.

This being said I understand why people think it's weird that they have a sister running and they're backing someone else- but I have a feeling that they didn't want to vote anti machine two elections in a row.

"It had already been decided." What a laugh! How long does it take to make a vote in chapter? 10 minutes? I think MAYBE they had enough time!!!! At the very least, someone with a backbone should have stood up and explained sisterhood to the chapter.

From what I understand Halle didn't notify her sorority that she was running until she announced it to the public. AGD had already pledged support to another and Halle knew it. If she had wanted her sisters support she would have included them in her decision making process and let them know when she started preparing for her campaign, not a week or two later. Sounds like she is selling her sisterhood out to get publicity and make a point. Both girls are highly qualified and come on... It's just homecoming queen.

And Alpha Gam couldn't say "Hey, I know we said we'd support you, but we can't vote against our sister." Obviously they could have. They just didn't want to go against the machine. I think this is the end of Alpha Gam.

They definately could have and should have said that. What makes this so bad is that the house voted to hang a KKat banner and do nothing to support their own sister. Not even a "good luck" post anywhere. That is how scared they are right now. They have obviously been intimidated into a bad situation. When you have women in your house that think for themselves, they sometimes do things that the Machine does not like. I always though AGD were a group of women that could think for themselves. I am second guessing that assumption now. I think reality is that they have SOME women who can and do think for themselves, but that as a group they are cowards.

This also confirms who is behind the Machine. It is the frat boys that are so anti-spillers. The sororities are just foot soldiers. These soldiers are "paid" with confederate (not legal tender) money like HC (something a guy can't run for... at least not yet, I think) and the promise that they will be reassigned to ice station 90 if they misbehave. If it was an even partnership, SGA President backed by machine would be a female every other time, for example.

Is it really an honor for that Phi Mu if she only gets it because of the machine, if I were her I would be embarrassed also. So what, you won cuz of the machine. WTF!!!

It really just tells you a lot about Alpha Gam. And everyone who votes for the machine-backed candidate (except for the PMs) is just as guilty. College students are taught to think for themselves. This whole machine story is such a black eye to Bama. I just wish we could go one full year without embarrassing ourselves.

I agree that this is problematic, but Katelyn really is an amazing girl. I'm in a non-machine house and I still voted for her. I don't think we should discredit Katelyn, it's not her fault that the Alpha Gams didn't support Halle

This dust up has nothing to do with the phi mu who is obviously outstanding. Problem is machine needed to stay out of it. Why can't Greeks just play it straight for once?

always knew that agds sisterhood was not that good. people kind of overlooked it because the same old story of "good grades, classy, old row, so involved good girls". newsflash: just because a sorority is in top of grades and aren't known as parties or are "top" because this site says they are doesn't mean their actual sisterhood is outstanding. no correlation between great grades and great sisterhood. hope this opens some eyes.
