oos
by: ActiveI think that something should be made clear about out of state percentages. When you ask if top tier houses take out of state girls and are given the answer "Yes more than half of the pledge class is" that can be very deceiving. I think the more appropriate question should be how many girls are not from the south? The majority of the top tier houses have girls from out of state, but of those out of state girls they are mostly all from southern states. Thats not to say there are not people from New York or California in those houses, but they are an extreme minority. I just think that its something to be aware of.

Honestly? OOS, you speak as though the state of Alabama is some gem! If you go anywhere else in the country (when you leave home for job, maybe?) and tell them you're from this state, no one is impressed. I love the California girls in our house!
Times are changing and it's definitely wrong to say only southern girls are relevant here. Wake up and smell the sweet tea...

Sorry but I totally agree with Active. People are saying "they have 3 NY girls" or "they took A girl from Maryland!" or "the California girls in our house"...um, yall, the PCs this year were all around at least 130 (some much bigger). So really, what difference do those handful of girls from non Southern states make (in terms of telling a PNM that all houses will take a girl from anywhere)? The truth is, yes, ALL houses take girls from OOS, but when you say "half the PC was OOS! Yay!" you're forgetting that the vast majority of those girls, at least in certain houses, are from other Southern states with a culture very similar to that of Alabama's.

Also, finally this year there is a huge swing with the oos girls (and some instate girls too) as far as which houses they want. The traditional old row houses are not automatically being considered the top, most desirable houses. In fact, the old row houses had dismal returns this this which has them freaked out!

I agree- a great pm is a great pm regardless of where they are from and all sororities realize that. We are all greek and we want this system to exist years from now but if we keep fighting within the system we will destroy ourselves from within. A house divided falls. Lets stand together and make a difference
