the boys

by: Qr

The discussion on old/new row and the impact of more OOS on sorority recruitment and pledge classes is tired. But what about the boys? Are we seeing any shifts in the frats and are the boys experiencing a similiar pattern of the old rows passing on quality OOS and new row houses really finding some very high quality new members "fall" to them, so to speak, because of lack of being from the right place or having the right connections or the right high school friend group?

I think old row and new row fraternities coexist pretty damn well at the moment. The traditional top old row fraternities DKE, SAE, KA still are as popular as ever but with more and more OOS students the bigger new row houses are also doing very well. They just operate in different circles.

While there is still some divide between old and new row fraternities, with the huge influx of quality OOS students coming to Bama, the bigger (relevant) new row fraternities have definitely made significant improvements in terms of their social standing. While old and new row fraternities usually don't hang out together, both are attracting top guys from Bama and all over the country. Good for IFC and NPC for embracing these changes.

Kudos to the boys for not attacking and being openly critical of each other the way we girls seem to like to do. Bet it's a mom thing.

I'm in one of the larger New Row fraternities and while I won't say New and Old Row are close when lined up side by side, the top New Row houses have been doing really well with tons of out of state guys that are smart and know how to party. We're definitely living in a time of relative peace among the chapters, and so far I think it's been good for everyone.

The distinctions among the frats are definitely gone unless you looking for Bama old money, which remains in sae, dke, ka.
