I was released and am devastated. Can someone tell me if there's any chance I'll get a bid this fall through COB or if I should just give up now. I really liked DG

It'll be a waiting game but don't get discouraged! You never know what may open up and I wish you good luck!

Do you have any good friends from high school, your Rho Chi group, on your floor in Tut etc that pledged DG (or other groups you're interested in)? If so, maybe mention that you didn't have the best outcome with Rush, but you loved their house, and that you'd be interested in coming to COB events if they have any. Leave it at that and then see what happens. You can also contact the Greek Life office to sign up for COB (so if groups do participate, they'll have your name). Good luck!!

The harsh truth is that once a sorority cuts you, it's going to be really hard to get them to take you. Some sororities have a "once cut, always cut" rule.

Most of the girls who COB didn't go through formal rush and have friends in the house, or are girls that didn't accept an invitation back to the house- ie, DG (or whomever) invited her back for Skit but she had ranked them lower and got all her 1's.

If you REALLY want DG some day, you better befriend some DG's and get some alumnae pulling for you, too.

I have no idea if they'll COB, but DG has spring rushed every year. Find some girls on your floor that pledged DG and start hanging out with them! Once you have a few friends its way easier to get invited to a spring party.

Why would chapters consider COB now when the pledge classes are so large and they all got quota?

with over 140 new members, some are bound to drop because they don't have the money, realize sorority life isn't for them, something happens back home, their grades suffer, they transfer, the list goes on. It's way easier to control girls not transferring back when pledge classes were 90 tops and everyone got to know everyone faster and the personality of every sorority was more consistent. Now the personalities are diverse (not a bad thing, just harder to find where you fit in each house) and there are so many girls some are bound to drop. This seems to especially be true with newer and lower tier houses because a good number of their girls aren't do or die sorority girls from the south that have been waiting to pledge all of high school. I think that's why GPhi has been taking so many more girls than everyone for a few years, but they are still needing to because obviously they are loosing enough to justify it. Hopefully with the addition of DG and another sorority soon the girls that get released will be the ones that would have dropped anyway and everyone can start retaining members better.

Go ahead and get involved in other stuff on campus. And get good grades! That will make you more attractive as a potential member.

I'm sorry you were released.
I doubt any of the groups will take any COB new members this fall.
Take the time to sign up for some other campus groups. Concentrate on your studies and get excellent grades.
As another person said, cultivate contacts you have within any of the houses.
Spring - maybe. Depends on if Panhellenic raises total (which they probably will), how many people graduate/transfer/drop out etc. A few may take some COB new members. Check with Panhellenic right after Christmas break.
And rushing next year is a possibility. Being a sophomore is not too much of a problem.
