alpha phi -- we have your back

by: truth

Things seem to be working in their favor now. There's now #FreeAlphaPhi trends and people outraged over the outrage of the video. What first started to be good publicity turned to bad publicity and is now turning to good again. The Alpha Phi video hate went TOO far and it was so unnecessary. People read way into a harmless video. It's been turned into a "race" thing and people are fed up with the media taking offense into everything. I'm glad to see people have their backs and are fighting back. What's even more awesome to see is that U of Alabama Greek students as a whole are coming together because we're tired of this OVERLY politically correct society and Alabama always being the bad guy (look up FSU DG, U MIAMI DG, ARIZONA APHI, etc). The video was NOT meant to be overly analyzed the way it was and was NOT the first recruitment video like this and the target audience was certainly NOT old people. High school senior girls love seeing stuff like this. We know sororities have more to offer than looks, but if you know anything about marketing this is what you do and it was just a well done FUN video. That simple. Anyways, props to you A PHI for starting a new movement and not backing down after being bullied to have everything deleted. Pan Love. One Row.

In a statement, the University of Alabama said: "This video is not reflective of UA's expectations for student organizations to be responsible digital citizens. It is important for student organizations to remember what is posted on social media makes a difference, today and tomorrow, on how they are viewed and perceived."

And media outlets/students have slammed the University for even making this statement. The University HAD to say this though.

You obviously are OOS and know NOTHING about the University of Alabama. This is NOT the image UA wants to project. There are going to be repercussions about this.
You slam about "OLD" people. Do you not realize that the UA Alumni donors, you know the one that give MILLLIONS to UA are not happy when UA is made an international laughing stock.
As someone involved in that fundraising, I am fielding calls from those people now and they aren't happy, which means checks don't get written
Those deep pockets are already not happy about so much scholarship money going to oos students and the comments is that this is what happens when we have a sorority with less than 20% of its membership from in state.
Media outlets are LAUGHING at UA b/c of this video and they are laughing at your sorority. That is NOT a good thing...just so you know.

1) If UA is so concerned about their image, why have the majority of fraternities not been integrated when there's been continuous outrage about lack of diversity? Hmm.

2) I'm not an Alphi Phi. I'm in a respected Old Row sorority, from Huntsville, ALABAMA, and not only do I support Alpha Phi but so do A LOT of my sisters. I've seen tons of tweets and facebook posts showing support towards them.

3) You're mad about out of state students when they're a GOOD reason UA is thriving? A lot of people I know from our great state do not attend UA. We aren't the richest state and Alabama isn't the cheapest school. Offering top OOS students scholarships is how we get them to come to our school.

4) Yes, I slam old people in their response to the video, not their response in the negative reaction. It's TWENTY FIFTEEN. Say it with me. 2 0 1 5. One more time? 2015!!! This is a way of recruiting and has been for a couple YEARS now. Get with it and stop worrying about what young adults are doing. Just because you don't get it doesn't mean you have to slam it. These girls have feelings too and this has become straight bullying. Get a grip and may god bless you.

They got a crappy pledge class and have been made fun of on everything from social media to the Today show. I'm not sure how a hashtag is going to make this positive.

If the girls they wanted are the ones they got, they need to set better standards. If you read their resumes like I did all summer, you'd know which ones had grades, families, good reputations, activities, summer camps, etc. and which ones didn't. I bet their pc gpa average is around 3.0 from high school. This is college. They need to raise their standards instead of making a controversial video. It's definitely not helping them, bless their hearts!

13 out of 143 new members may have dropped? Is that really unusual? How about the other chapters? Really nothing to see if you don't have anything to compare it to?

It's one thing to be upset and make an argument about a video you deem inappropriate. If that is the case, as you preach, then it should be directed to ALL such/similar videos and the point being made not directed to ONE group of individuals. The fact that you keep slandering APhis to the point of harassment, only disproves your point. In other words, take up point with the issue and not the people involved.

More advice, take it to greekchat where you can toss your ideas around with other "experts". Or do they not entertain this topic?

by: not necessarily

It's fine for people to air their opinions about a video that is in the news. One doesn't need to seek out all recruitment videos to analyze before commenting on the one that was on the TODAY show. And it isn't slander if it's an opinion.

And don't tell people that they can't post here. That's not your call.

Did you even read the comment you responded to? How is it slander have the opinion that the video is inappropriate. She gave some very valid reasons for her opinion. She didn't just say it was. She gave reasons. Why you ignored in your rant.
