dropping a bottom house

by: New sad member

I rushed and got a bottom tier house. Is being in a bottom house better than no greek life at all? Strongly considering dropping.

Yes, being in a "lower tier" house is better than not being Greek at all at UA. See this post;:

Girl, you took the place of another girl who would have loved to have your place. There are several girls who did not receive bids. Please give your house a chance! Take time to get to know your sisters.

Most people drop after 2 years, anyways. Just stick it out. :)

I think she means most peoplego all in/ really participate in everything (like all of the social events, philanthropy events, Greek wide events etc) for the first 2 years and then might back off a little their junior and senior year (but they don't resign their membership; they just aren't as involved because the bar scene becomes more popular and they're making plans for after graduation, studying abroad etc). There are exceptions to this though- some girls are really involved all 4 years. It's totally up to you!!

If you're asking advice on greek rank then you probably believed the stuff about tiers and that's why you're unhappy.

This is the truth, take it or leave it.

There are no bad houses at Bama. All the houses are selective and the one that chose you is full of amazing girls. Every house is.

All houses (unlike the dorms/apts) provide you with sisterhood now and connections later on.

The houses are huge and there are all kinds of girls in every house. No one house has all the smart ones or all the pretty ones. Even a rocket science major can find friends in A Phi. They're that diverse.

In order to enjoy your life you have to make yourself happy. That means you go to the house and absolutely throw yourself into everything it has to offer. Wear the letters, study there, hang out there between classes, introduce yourself, make them notice you. Our classes are so big it's going to be a little hard to meet everyone, so don't be shy.

There is a lot more prestige being in ANY sorority at Bama than in being independent or being in any sorority at Auburn!

Don't drop your house. Any house is as good as the current members make it to be. Stay in and make it great. It's only a "lower tier" house if you think it is.

You'll find your crew within the house and you will be glad you stayed. Obviously your chapter loves you so give them a chance. Girls come on these boards all the time with these stories because they're true and they want you to not throw away your opportunity to shine in your house. RUN WITH THIS CHANCE AND MAKE YOUR HOUSE AWESOME!!!!

I did not pledge a bottom house, but I did pledge a solid middle tier house and on the bid day retreat I have a few second thoughts. It was not second guessing the status of the house, but if this specific house was a right fit for me and if I really made a choice as the persuasion of older girls I knew that rushed me hard versus my second choice that is another solid middle tier house for pref...

Honestly PLEASE GIVE IT SOMETIME. It will be completely different once school starts, swap season happens, football season will finally be here, and most importantly you will get into your own routine with school and all. It will be different. Get a chance to led your mind be open and get to know the girls.

I had a slight second guess, but after school started I bonded with my pledge class and the older girls... I could not imagine my life without choosing that path, I did make the right choice. I would not have made some of the amazing friends that were put into my life through my sorority.

Please do not the tier or ranking be a determining factor as to why you drop. I get it as a freshman status seems so important, but the older you get the less people care and just hang out with you... Well because you are yourself, and they like you. As a junior no one gave a care, I have friends in every sorority, that are my best friends. Give it sometime and if you do not mesh with the girls, then okay.

Wait to see how it is once school starts though, my bet is you will feel different.

You rushed as a junior? That's allowed??

I think she is saying she's a junior now, and that by that time no one cares about what "tier" your house is- they just like you for you. But technically, yes, rushing as a junior is "allowed", but it's VERY unlikely that you'd get a bid as a junior going through FR.

Amazing girls exist in every house. If you're a top tier girl, you'll find other top tier girls in your house that you'll adore. You might even branch out and find some others that are sweet as can be but who went to a country school or are from oos. Your only mistake is in dropping out or deciding you're too good for the only house that wanted you.
