My freshman year I didn't do formal and wanted a sisterhood . I visited both ADX and SDT . Both were really nice girls and pros and cons. It really just depends on what you're looking for. ADChi seemed close knit but passed out a sheet full of rules the first night. (IE you can't be in the presence of a male after like 2 AM and you're only allowed to miss X amount of Sunday church services ) so if you want a tight spiritual based sisterhood that has no interest in getting on the row, I would go them. As for SDT super nice girls but no real "personality " type, the sisters seem close but they diff have the cliques, but they did seem to be trying to get back on the row. So if you want a sorority that might not be as close , but is working towards being mainstream I would go with them. Or you can do what I did and wait till next year and get the house you really want! Good Luck!!

We have a family friend who was released last year and she ended up SDT....and LOVES it. Smaller house, which IMO is better. You really do get to know ALL your sisters....I don't see how these pledge classes of 150+ get to know each other well at all, much less 300 + actives.

If I were you I would 100% go with SDT. I was joining a sorority to be in a social organization and not a religious one.
My reasons:
1) I know a couple of girls and they are nice.
2) If you want a mainstream social sorority, go with SDT. My main priority in joining a sorority was not religion, but meeting people and being social. I don't want to have a huge religious-based list of rules to follow.
3) SDT is improving year by year. I don't see anyone disrespecting them and they have fun like the rest of the sororities. They are also getting bigger and bigger. You'll have a chance to help lead the chapter back to being popular.
4) They have a house which makes it a real sorority. That matters to me.
5) They are national and part of the National Panhellenic Council so you will have alumnae chapters to join after college and you'll find sisters no matter where you end up. You'll also be able to participate in Panhellenic activities and make better friends with the other Greeks on campus.

She can wait until next year but that is no guarantee she won't get dropped again. Bama recruitment is one of the most competitive. If you're cut once...if it's not for grades and you bring those grades up...you'll very very likely be cut again. I know several girls who this happened to and it was such a disheartening experience for them.
And on top of that she'll have missed out on a year of sisterhood.
