blown away by this year's quota number

Would love for Sigma Kappa to come here. They haven't been super strong in the SEC but those chapters are improving I hear and they tend to be great at smaller schools so they have potential. Their nationals is expanding a lot in the north west so not sure if they would have the money to support a house here considering the hostility bama Greeks tend to exemplify toward new sororities.

Bama is the Big Leagues for Sororities. New entry is very difficult. However, DG provides a roadmap because they have come in, obtained a foothold and are moving up the ranks steadily. Shows it can be done but you better have some money and patience. The norm is a 40,000 square foot chapter house. That is a huge barrier. If you do not have a new house that can compete, any new entry is going to need temporary space that keeps them from being the house for left overs. But if you want to compete with the best in the SEC it takes money, patience, a serious plan, leadership and commitment. For Greek and for Football and everything else!

Why don't we work with what we have and try to help revitalize SDT? they're already here...

While it's great to encourage girls who dropped out of or were released from recruitment to check out SDT (or ADX), and many amazing girls have found their home there, SDT has had very low numbers for a long time and doesn't participate in FR. It appears that SDT is happy with this, and their Nationals are fine with it too, so that's great. Because of this, they will probably remain small-by choice. But we need another group to balance out these huge PCs, and I think SK and AXiD would be awesome contenders.

It's actually kind of insulting for you to write SDT off like that.

If you didn't know, a few years ago SDT's nationals tried to revitalize the chapter....it didn't work, but their numbers have gone up significantly from then until now. If you look at the grade reports you can see that they went from like 14 girls to over 60 in the last few years. The chapter is working hard to recruit quality women and I doubt that their nationals would be unhappy for them to grow and be able to participate in FR again, especially since they did try it a few years ago when the chapter was tiny. You can google this if you're interested.

Having a group come to a school like Bama is a tremendous effort and this campus has been open for "ongoing expansion" for a couple of years now. The fact that SK and AXiD aren't biting tells you something.

I think it would be within our best interest to work within the framework to do what we actually can do, which is try to be a unified Panhellenic community and help a chapter out that was down on its luck a few years ago but has been trying incredibly hard to make a comeback. Isn't that what Greek unity and Panhellenic is all about? Helping each other instead of tearing each other down?

DDD had 125 to be exact

140 - they're embarrassed because it looks like they have a retention problem but they did it to avoid COB which would have looked worse.

I'm glad that you're on close terms with the DDD chapter adviser! It's so cool that she tells you a different pledge class number than the whole active chapter was told!

The number reported to nationals is 140.

Not more openings....they're quota additions, because we had so many rushing this year.
Idea is to place the most PNMs possible.

VERY generally speaking, weaker chapters get more girls, but variations always occur, too.

Chapter size does determine how selective you can be. Typically, houses who have to take more new members tend to be smaller because they aren't allowed to make as many cuts because they have to get their numbers up. This is why you tend to see less popular houses taking larger pledge classes; their retention rates aren't as stellar as others.
