ADPi and KD are pretty much exclusively Southern, and while they're good in the South they are not good pretty much anywhere else and don't have the strongest Nationals

ADPi and KD aren't really even strong in the south everywhere. In Texas they're bottom at every school.

ADPI is better than KD in Texas. Not great but better, has a chapter at TCU and Baylor. KD failed at both schools. ADPi at UT is lower tier but not the worst house,at least equal to KD if not slightly better. Alpha Xi Delta and SDT are the um scary houses at UT.

Alpha Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Pi Beta Phi. But don't pick based on national reputation; pick based on where you feel comfortable and where you feel you can grow as a student, person, and leader.

Alpha Phi is big on the West Coast, but not nationally.

Alpha Phi is the THIRD largest sorority of 26 NPC groups. Get your facts straight. They are absolutely a major player in sorority world , and that includes all regions of the U.S.

Sorry to have upset you, Alpha Phi, but having a bunch of chapters doesn't make you a national powerhouse, especially when many of them are at second tier schools- ie, your chapter closed at Texas A&M because of numbers but you're at Texas A&M- Commerce (a commuter school).

by: Strat

@strat - Alpha Phi is at more Ivy League schools than anyone. It is at more elite schools -- and by that I mean the near Ivies like Johns Hopkins and Stanford (not technically an Ivy) than any other group. And every group has closed chapters. Texas A & M ? Meh. We just conquering the SEC now. Roll Tide !

Get your facts straight:

1. Johns Hopkins is not even an Ivy League school. The Ivies are an athletic league consisting of Cornell, Brown, Columbia, UPenn, Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Dartmouth.

2. Alpha Phi is only on 4 of those campuses. Other soririties are on more Ivy campuses than APhi: Kappa and Theta are both at 7 of the 8 Ivy schools (Kappa is not at Brown & Theta is not at Harvard). Pi Phi is also on 4 Ivy campuses. Pi Phi, Kappa, and Theta are considered the most prestigious of the Ivy sororities since they are the only three houses at Yale and Princeton.

@strat -- can you read ? Strat said "near Ivy" when referring to Hopkins. It means schools just below the Ivies in admissions selectivity. Alpha phi is at Harvard, Yale (colony), Dartmouth, Cornell and UPenn and has a closed chapter at Columbia. Alpha Phi at more of the Top 50 U.S. News national universities than any other. Not the no name teachers colleges and land grant schools that comprise so many other groups.

I would add Alpha Phi to the nationally strong list - they are top at almost every school in the West Coast and mid-Atlantic and are the 3rd largest sorority. Otherwise, the list is spot on!

Alpha Phi is extremely strong nationally. I'm not an APhi but my sister is, and they're not only top on the West Coast, Midwest, and Northeast, but have more chapters at elite schools than any other sorority - Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Penn, MIT, Dartmouth, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Duke, UNC, UCLA, UC Berkeley, USC.....

I don't go hear, but randomly read this page because it's so different from greeklife I've seen. But the strongest nationally(having actually visited chapters in every region) is hands down Kappa, Theta and Alpha Phi. Theta's alum base is insane and have a solid presence nationally besides California where they only really have a few top chapters. Kappa once again is beyond strong nationally and seems to have a decent southern presence. Alpha Phi completely dominates the entire west coast as well as parts of the Mid-West, North and New England. Both Miss America 2015 and Miss USA 2015 were initiated into Alpha Phi(although Miss America was kicked out). The first woman treasurer of the U.S.A. was an Alpha Phi along with Frances E Willard... the main woman you should thank for women's right to vote. Most any republican politicians wife was a Theta. Ralph Lauren's daughter was a Theta. Melinda Gates was a Theta. Same with Tory Burch. (Basically Theta is the wife house) Kate Spade was a Kappa. Lo Bosworth, Sophia Bush, Mariska Hargitay among MANY other actresses were in Kappa. Kappa had two First Ladies. Quite honestly, the houses that are traditionally strong in the south aren't that nationally strong.

Nationally, Chi Omega, Pi Beta Phi, Alpha Phi, and Alpha Chi Omega seem to be, to me at least and in no particular order, the strongest.

In the South, Delta Delta Delta, Chi Omega, Kappa Delta, Zeta Tau Alpha, Kappa Alpha Theta, Alpha Delta Pi, and Phi Mu all seem especially strong.

Some things to remember about national rankings:
- Alpha Beta Gamma sorority is amazing at Smallville University doesn't mean that it's amazing at Big City University.
- All NPC sororities are strong. The most well-known (AXO, ADPi, AOII, APhi, XO, Tri-Delt, DG, DZ, GPhiB, KAO, KD, KKG, Phi Mu, Pi Phi, and Zeta) all have strong national presence. They wouldn't be well-known if they didn't have that presence.

From Newsweek 2012 (some may place more importance on different categories, but you can at least see specific numbers here rather than guess work and personal bias). Rankings will follow

There are 26 organizations in the National Panhellenic Conference, with reputations and memberships that vary by campus. To analyze which sororities have the largest national footprint, most devoted sisters, and greatest philanthropic footprint, we compared the 26 Panhellenic Conference sororities based on the number of active collegiate chapters, the number of Twitter followers and Facebook fans (to measure alumni and member interest) and the amount of money the sorority’s non-profit fund donated to 501(c)(3) organizations according the most recent public filing (funds were normalized using a per-chapter ratio). Funds donated to individual chapters, classified as a 501(c)(7) non-profit social club, were not considered for this aspect of the ranking.
We attempted to get an accurate count of the current number of active collegiate chapters from a variety of sources, and contacted all sororities to verify. Several sororities and The National Panhellenic Conference declined to participate or comment for this article due to their governance policies.

This is accurate if you want to know about social media presence in 2012 when you were sophomores in high school. This list is worse than useless because it has no relevance today but you're presenting it as if it did.

It clearly states that it is from 2012, so I don't think it was presented as current. But it seems to be the most recent list from Google. I doubt things have changed drastically since then, but who knows. It does at least offer some useful info, like $ donated and number of chapters as recent as a few years ago, instead of just opinions and more opinions. I may not agree with the rank, but found the numbers interesting.

I don't think Theta Phi Alpha has chartered 94 chapters total let alone have that many active.

If you really want to see strength, you need to look at the ratio of chartered chapters to active chapters, not including things like the school not existing anymore.
