rushing as a sophomore?
by: PNMI considered rushing last year, but now that I'm a freshman on campus I'm seriously thinking about rushing this fall. Thoughts? Are chapters as open to sophomores joining as they are to freshmen?

Yes, definitely try! My sorority is old row and took some sophomores. All had very high GPAs, so your 4.0 will be a plus. On a kind of side note, my mother does a lot of recs and mostly for PNMs at SEC schools. She's been doing them for years, but said she and members of her alumnae group saw more sophomores in the SEC (and at FSU) get bids this past fall than they had ever seen before.

Do you have to know people in the house to get in as a sophomore? I really don't know many greek women. I didn't rush last year and I have a 4.0, but the girls in sororities that I know don't know me well so I'm not sure what kind of impression I've made, if any. I could also just wait for Sigma Kappa where I'm a legacy, but I'd be a Junior by then and I'd rather get in it sooner.

You will be TOTALLY fine. Someone is definitely going to take you, and with a 4.0 it's going to be a great house. Also, I mean recs can sometime help a little, but they aren't totally necessary. I got in a old row house without knowing anyone or having any recs so it's okay if you can't find one for one house. Good luck :)

No sorority HAS to take upperclassmen.
All sororities have the OPTION of taking them. Most take a few. Even so-called old-row.
It's all about who you know in the sorority.
