Bittersweet about my daughter

by: Mom

I'm a mom of three girls who all went through rush and joined sororities. I was also in a sorority back in my day, along with my older sister and two of my cousins. My first two girls rushed our sorority at their schools and absolutely loved it, and my youngest had our house, and another house for preference round. She ended up choosing the other house she had on pref day, and got a bid from them. I tried not to let it show that I was a bit disappointed, and really wanted to be happy for her and with her choice. However, I can't help but think she's made a mistake. I think she would've had such a better experience in my sorority, and she's the first young woman in our family to join Greek life, but not in our house. Any other mommas have their daughters go a different house?

Yes, my daughter joined a different house than mine. I told her going into rush to find a house that feels right to her. I had my time with my sorority. Now it's her time. She found a sorority that she connected with and had an amazing four years there. No regrets at all from either of us.

Heres a serious question. How do any girls find a “home “ for 4 years when you essentially meet 3 girls of 400 approx and hear a lot of a philanthropy. Then have 30 min meeting the exact same 1-3 girls again. Oh but wait. You get to watch a video … the only way they know anything is to read the silly rankings and guess and talk to friends. Let’s not pretend otherwise. All this I hope they found a home etc. it’s just guessing and they all have fine girls.

No mom that's not really the actual recruitment experience from either the pnm's or the sororities' side at Bama. But whatever, that's what you get from greekrank.
