One house on pref

by: Pnm

Is it the same concept as suicide bidding if you only get one house for pref or are you guaranteed that house?

If you have one house at Pref and attend the party and indicate you’d accept a bid from them, you are guaranteed a bid from that house.

If you suicide bid, it means you got invited to two houses but only said you’d accept a bid from one. Under those circumstances there is a chance you don’t get a bid because you may not have been high enough on the house’s list to get a bid before they meet quota. I’d strongly recommend against doing that. I know you think you know everything about the houses after 3 visits but you don’t because recruitment is really fake for all houses. The process usually works and you end up where you belong.

Girls that have one house at pref have a very easy and stress-free night because they know where they're going!

Okay great… thank you for explaining! I definitely wasn’t planning to suicide bid but I was very scared about the whole what if I end up with one house thing and being in the same boat so I appreciate the explanation!

Don’t ever suicide bid.U mess up the algorithm for yourself. If u r not in the very top list of the house u want, u will not get a bid.

My recommendation is tell the house that is ur 2nd choice nicely that u see urself in the other other house u r preffing. Don’t be rude but be honest. U will then be at the bottom of ur 2nd house’s bid list. Being low on the 2nd choice’s bid list is good bc there is a high likelihood u will be mid to high on ur preferred house’s list. This gives u a lot more wiggle room in ur preferred house bid list. U could be mid on their list and still get a bid. If u suicide and r mid on the list, u get nothing.

That is so wrong. Being low on the 2nd choice's list DOES NOTHING TO GET A PNM PLACED HIGHER ON HER #1's LIST. The houses' ranks of pnm's are in no way affected by how the pnm's rank them. A pnm could still be too low on her 1st choice's list before they reach quota, no matter where she is on her 2nd house's list.

If a pnm is not high enough to match with her #1 then the algorithm will try to match her with her #2. If she is not high enough to match with her #2 either then the algorithm will place her at either house as a quota addition. Where a quota addition will go depends on her ranks, the houses' ranks, and the relative sizes of the houses' total membership. A pnm who does not rank both of her 2 houses is not eligible to be a quota addition, and if she does not match with her #1 she will not get a bid. Talk it out with your Rho Chi before choosing to SIP, because for some PNM's it makes sense and for some it does not.

It isn’t wrong. If u r higher on the list for ur 1st house it’s more likely u go there for quota plus

You are assuming that house #2 will put you all the way at the bottom. They very well may just bump you down a bit and being low at one house doesn't mean you are higher at the other, you can be low at both. And quota additions are not automatic to your first choice, though the algorithm tries to if possible, but there are other considerations so it depends on the house membership total and how low or high you were on each bid list. And if you tell your #2, no matter how politely, that you want your other house, you could still end up at #2 on bid day and the actives will know that you didn't want them. Not a great start.

Again, this is an option if they really don’t want their 2nd choice. It’s an option that helps them more then doing a suicide bid. If they get their 2nd house it really doesn’t matter bc they will drop anyway. This just gives them a better chance to get their 1st choice. I don’t recommend this method if the PNM can see herself in her 2nd choice house.

If a pnm fully intends to drop with a bid from her #2 then she needs to SIP. She will be ruled out as a quota addition but at least she won't be bound by the MRABA for an entire year, and would still be eligible for a COB or the rare snap. Otherwise she has to wait for a full year and go through formal again, not to mention it is a bad thing to do to any house.

Yes, be careful and talk it through. Be smart about what you do. I know someone that told the #2 house they preferred the other house before pref parties and just didn't want to go to that house again. Then, the invite came for prefs. They were not even dropped. Shocker! You don't always get what you want and it doesn't always work the way you think.
