What I know now

I am OOR and accepted a bid from one of the top OR houses. I ranked houses based on alleged ranks and Southern girls in my rush group. I didn't know a thing and to be honest, all the houses started blending together after visiting so many. This year in my house has been terrible. Most of my pledge sisters already knew each other, they had already established cliques with the older Actives, most of them are not and have not been friendly, and they are always fighting with each other. The drama is something I hoped I could get away from after high school. Its worse here. I don't feel like I have made any real friends in my house and still feel very unwelcome at the house. I am thinking of dropping after this year. Its not worth the money for the experience I am having.
My roommate (from the same state as me) got cut from all of the OR houses almost immediately and was really devastated by that during recruitment. She almost dropped out of rush. However, she stayed and continued to get a lot of invites from NR houses and ended up being really excited about her last 2 choices. She accepted a bid from a house that is consistently ranked on here as a bottom house. She has had the best year in her house. She has made a group of really good and supportive friends, she is dating a fun guy from a frat, she is always at her house doing things because she wants to be there, and is having exactly the experience I expected. I am so jealous.
I am sharing this because of all the posts about ranks and who gets the best PNMs and which houses are top, etc. aren't accurate for everyone. Social media and ranks by mean and petty girls on GR don't tell the whole story. I recommend PNMs stay off this site or take it for the cheap entertainment value. I have regrets.

The only people who say “fraternity” are KD, KKG, Chi O, AXO, and AGD and even they don’t keep it that formal all the time.
You will see Phi Mu, Tri Delt, Zeta, Pi Phi, ADPi etc say frat before fraternity everytime.

I am OOR and am in a house constantly ranked at the top and mainly girls from the Alabama area. I live in the house and am miserable. Most of the girls living in the house are very religious and are very two faced / judgemental. I'm thinking of dropping...my BF is in a house that is constantly picked on and she is having the time of her life. She takes me to some of her date parties and I feel very accepted there.

If OR gave you a bid, which you claim they did, they wouldn’t have cut your roommate immediately. Your house would have kept her a few days as a courtesy to you, because they wanted you. There are so many inaccuracies in your post, I don’t believe a word of it.

This is a fake post probably from someone who doesn't even go to school here. No house has "mainly girls from the Alabama area." Even the houses with a lot of in-state members have a majority of OOS members. I hope no PNMs are believing the bs on this site.

I had the opposite experience! I’m religious and the house I ended up wasn’t very. It was a party house and I liked to party here and there but not 5 times a week like the rest, I really didn’t didn’t fit in. It also didn’t help that the majority of my friends dropped or transferred after freshman year

If you are coming from outside the south, do yourself a favor and cut the OR houses immediately. They are only top for OR. Completely separate set of houses for NR and girls come from all over. Do not believe the rankings or hype on here as you need to delete OR to have true options where you will fit in. I have seen almost no exceptions.

I personally know girls from both oor and oos who are very happy in top OR houses. I'm sure they are glad they didn't listen to advice like this. Everyone has their own experience and should go into rush with an open mind and just see where they find the best fit. There are no "rules" like this.
When I read a comment like this I immediately think this is someone who got dropped from OR and it makes them feel better to think it was because of where they are from, I guess they just ignore the fact that there are oor and oos girls in all of these houses.

A majority of gIrls in “bottom” houses aren’t on GR. They picked their houses based on where they felt they best fit and aren’t insecure enough go by the hype on this site. They don’t have an interest mainly or the time to go on this site going back and forth..move this house up one and move that house down one to make themselves feel better. They are living their lives. I know a lot of top girls “bottom” houses that are very pretty, involved, and sweet who either felt they wouldn’t fit in a top house or wEre overlooked from the start because they didn’t have recommendations or whatever the reason and it worked out fine for them.

Keep talking because the rest of us won't have to tell the PNMs what your houses are all about because you'll do it for us with your high school mentality, judgmental tone, and small minded thinking. I have no idea why girls are miserable in OR.

It’s obvious the op is not even in an OR house, but here is something real PNMs can check. If actives are so miserable in their OR houses, then why do OR houses have such good retention (not losing members)? The houses who are not at total because they lose members are eligible to add members through cob (continuous open bidding). The list of those houses is on the pan site. It doesn’t mean these are bad houses, but funny that none of the OR houses are on the list. Maybe they should be more worried about people dropping out of their houses than pretending to be in someone else’s. Here's the list and it's pretty much the same every semester:
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Omicron Pi
Alpha Phi
Delta Gamma
Delta Zeta
Gamma Phi Beta
Kappa Alpha Theta
Sigma Kappa
Zeta Tau Alpha

One of the reason OR stays off this list is because they drop grade and reputation risks early in rush, the houses that struggle with retention and live on the cob list (looking at Zeta, Aphi) pick up those grade and rep risks as long as they look good or have a lot of followers.

Juniors and seniors stay in OR not necessarily because they are happy; they stay because the social pressure from their moms, grandmas, and friends. If they drip, everyone in their social circle and hometown (where they will likely return after college) will freak out on them. They would basically lose all their friends if they drop. The recent survey revealing the level of happiness among AGD seniors is pretty indicative of how upper class man who stay feel. They stay to avoid social isolation.

No one stays in their house because of moms and grannies. No one would lose all their friends if they dropped. They don’t return to their hometowns to join jr league. Maybe in 1960 but it’s 2023 now. Besides the majority of OR actives are OOS including the active who was kicked out of AGD.
The houses that can’t keep enough members and need to cob are on the list. Just a fact. Look it up.
All this OR bashing and crazy BS about religious coercion is either by trolls who don’t go to school here or trolls who are bitter they were cut. No one IRL who goes to school here obsesses about OR except trolls on GR who aren’t in any of those houses.

If you weren't just a troll and actually in a house, all that says is that you are constantly stirring drama there too and need help.
But good thing you aren't even in house here, because that will save you the trouble of dropping or resorting to violence and being kicked out. You don't have anything to drop out of except an imaginary house that exists for you only on GR.

OR houses have drops for all different reasons but are so concerned about their image of doing COB, they just don't do it. That is really absurd since it would make better sense to fill those spots when needed. It is all about image.

only the houses panhellenic lists as eligible because they are below total can cob. houses not on the list can't. just another troll who isn't in any house.
