truly sorry if this is sort of a cynical question but, solely from a social status standpoint, would it be considered “cooler” to be in a low-ranked or mid sorority than to not be in one at all? or is it the other way around? i know ranks are dumb but i just really want to understand how social life works at bama considering the huge presence of greek life, if that makes sense :p
thank you for your honest answers in advance

I’m a sophomore in one of the NR houses that is considered a bottom house on this ridiculous GR. I love my house and sisters. It’s a great house for me. If you’re cute and have a personality, NOBODY ON CAMPUS CARES ABOUT THE RANKS. I can’t say that loud enough. Frat guys honestly could care less. Some try hard freshman girls in top houses can try to be elitist but that’s a very small amount that haven’t mentally graduated from high school yet. Despite this site, sorority girls if you’re cool are fairly nice to each other.
My sisters and I get invited go to all the big frat parties, I have been to 3 formals in NOLA, and have friends in other houses. It is 100 times better to be in a house than not be in one. You get to know so many people in the Greek system. The swaps, homecoming pairings, and all the other stuff with fraternities is a great way to meet friends in frats. Girls not in sororities are kinda outsiders at many Greek events.

It's sad that y'all believe sorority membership is for social status. You're just getting that off of this site and tiktok. Your letters don't get you social status around here, that is entirely up to you and how you present yourself and behave with other people. Sorority membership is for finding your best friends and having fun and being able to enjoy a home away from home. You meet so many people in other sororities and fraternities, and if you want to get involved with anything, like a campus organization or a team or any activity or interest at all, there is someone who will help connect you. It is not about clout.

If you want to participate in the Greek social scene on campus, it’s so much better to be Greek than not Greek. You can still get into frat parties and darties as a non-Greek but you won’t know very many people. You would know a ton more people as a sorority member.
