Is it true that old row houses drop girls not born and raised in the south

Definitely not true but it’s a lot harder to rush old row if you’re not southern. Northern girls rly have to present themselves in a certain way and try harder to make connections in houses more than southern girls. Pretty sure all old row houses (even kd and kappa) hold spots open for non-southern girls but it’s a lot more competitive

Sorta. OR houses have a lot of girls in them that came down the same high schools, camps, etc. so a lot of Southern PNMs know a lot Actives in these houses. The houses are goi f to rank the girls they already know or are already fiends with higher. And, all the Southern girls want the same 5 OR houses. As a result, OOR girls are at a huge disadvantage and get released from these houses.

Plus, some OR houses really don’t want OOR girls in them (talking to you KD and KKG). They always extend bids to some because they have to fill quota but it’s not their preference. OOR pledges have a very tough time being included in these houses.

Even though Legacy status has been removed as a factor from Nationals, many OR houses still look at Legacies. Case in point are KD and Kappa- they will still try to “steal” a legacy to having bragging rights. I know because I am from far OOS and both houses wanted me. I did end up meeting really nice girls in both houses, which surprised me.

If you are not Southern, you don’t want KD, KKG, AXO or XO. They are not your people…even if you try to assimilate. So many other better sisterhood options for OOR PNMs.

okay what would y’all say it’s the same for AGD in getting the girls from the south or just some of the bigger houses like kd and kkg ???

It’s just kinda different cause agd doesn’t rly rush the same girls as kd and kkg. If I had to guess it’s pretty likely agd has more northern girls than kd and kkg, but I feel like kd/kkg rush more based on connections/money while agd looks more at a pnm’s resume. This is also kinda the case for axo. I also wouldn’t say kd and kkg are “bigger” houses they just have a bigger reputation amongst southern girls.

Not the same. AGD wants the girls with the very best grades. It’s becoming irrelevant where those top students come from. They also want the nice girls that are rule followers and don’t do, say or wear anything controversial ever. As a result, they are a house with smart and very boring girls.

AGD wants grades. They are boring if you have an ounce of fun in you and are ready to enjoy Bama.

If you are OOS, wouldn't even bother with OR - they are so cliquey...high school all over again.

Totally agree. You will be more included in the sisterhood of NR houses and have a better chance of getting leadership positions in a house that isn’t full of girls that already knew each other before college and will vote and select each other for positions.

You will NEVER have to worry about paying an empty bed fee or being forced into living in-house if you’re OR. Many OOS girls don’t want to live in-house because they need a place for their parents/ sibs to stay when they visit. OR houses have waiting lists to get in-house and they go by grades and house positions.

That is the stupidest comment ever! I'm NR and our house fills up with girls living in house without a problem. Also, all parents I know can afford a hotel room. Go where you feel comfortable and not getting your info from the bimbo above.

KD, KKG, XO, AXO= 100% Southern high school 2.0

DDD, AGD= 70% Southern high school 2.0

All the above houses will say they have a lot of OOS girls and they do…from GA, FL and other Southern states.

All of the above houses will say they have OOR girls and they do….likely, 10 girls in a pledge class of 150. Admittedly, more in DDD and AGD….but NOT even close to being half.

Southern girls like to stick together and they disguise this as giving bids based on values. It’s so funny.

I’m in NR and from Chicago. My sisters are from everywhere. I love it. Would have been miserable in OR. I guess I just don’t have the values🤣🤣

You forgot PM. I always do too.
I’d put them in the same category as DDD and AGD.

If you actually were in a sorority you would know that all houses are supposed to be using values-based recruitment. It's a National Panhellenic thing not just a southern thing at UA

There is a BIG difference between what is suppose to happen to what actually happens. If you were in a sorority - you would know!

Y'all have no idea what you're talking about when you bring up "values-based recruitment." It does NOT mean not being able to choose your membership the way you want. It simply means that the PROCESS of recruitment should not revolve around sororities showing off with huge rush budgets spent on excessive decorations, food, party favors, skits, and required sorority outfits that cause a financial burden to the members. Because rush used to be like that. It was a week of rather shallow 'let us impress you' show-off events put on by the sororities meant to dazzle the rushees instead of getting to know each other. There was no mention of a chapter's philanthropy, no discussion of the sisterhood aspect, and far less chance for actual conversations. Values-based recruitment refers to all of that, and has nothing to do with not offering bids to people that the chapter members already know and like and want to be their sorority sisters.

I had my heart set on Kappa at pref. It really works out for the best. Went NR - I'm so happy. The couple of girls from OOS dropped last year in Kappa due to being left out of events.

by: Yep

I agree. It’s a bad move to join Kappa or KD as OOR and expect to have a good experience. XO gives me the same vibe but I’m not sure because I don’t know any Actives in that house.

Do NOT get caught up with 'ranks." This sight is run by old southern Moms and Grandma's trying to make their old row houses rank high and insult Zeta, Alpha Phi, Phi Pi and AD Pi.

Yes- they drop MOST OOS girls. It's just a fact and don't cry about it. If you aren't from the area, it's not a big deal - they are quite old fashion with their values.
