Possible to Go AXO/AlphaGam From OOR

by: pnm

Is it possible to get a bid to AXO or Alpha Gam from OOR? I have a high GPA, involvement, etc. and they match my values the best, but I’m not sure if being from OOR will hurt me.

OOS needs recs to get noticed. If you are in south attend any advertised events to register with local pan.

North ask around church and school.

3000+ resumes. You need a great gpa (on a 4.0 scale) and recs to get noticed by those houses. Great involvement and clean socials to keep their notice.

Any girl from anywhere can get into any house if they have the right credentials: high GPA, highly involved in school and their community, leadership positions (class officer, club president, etc), athletic (cheer, dance, soccer, tennis, etc), clean reputation, cute girl, dressed
trendy, clean social media (no alcohol or smoking in pics and limit the bikini pics) and you have at least two recs for every house.

Keep your GPA high and your socials clean. Stay involved in high school and volunteer in the community if you can. If panhel says to stay off TT during rush, STAY OFF. Trust me, it matters. Make sure you look your best during recruitment, but no PNM has to be blonde and orange to get in AXO or Alpha Gam. Good luck!

I was wondering the same thing. My mom was an AXO and still has some of her best friends from that time - but it was at a school in the midwest. I love their philanthropy because domestic violence prevention is important to me. But I am worried because we live OOR.

Every house has OOR girls in it, that's factually true. However, several OR houses have pledge classes with fewer than 20 OOR girls in them. So, 20 girls in a pledge class of 150 girls is a pretty low number. And, once you are in, people fail to tell you how you may be an outsider because the other 130 girls already know each other from high school, cheer camps, Bible camps, neighborhoods, etc. No OOR PNM ever wants to hear this but it is true. OR will flat out lie and tell everyone that they don't favor Southern girls and every OOR has the same chance if she's smart, cute, and involved enough. Its a lie. You will be competing with Southern PNM's who personally know several Actives in the OR houses, have mamas who network for them, and get letters of recommendation from recent alums from the Bama chapter of that house.

Put your best foot forward but don't fall too in love with any one or two houses. And, don't think any less of yourself if you got cut because it has less to do with you personally and more to do with who you knew.

Plus, OR houses aren't any different than NR houses. They think they are better because a bunch of their moms are on GR 24/7 saying that they are top.

AXO is one of the most popular houses for PNMs. Unless you have personal connections in the house, you will be at a serious disadvantage as an OOR PNM- regardless of what your grades or other credentials are. You will also have a problem getting a bid from KKG, XO, and KD as OOR.

If your high school grades are very high (4.0 or higher), you have a much better chance of getting a bid from AGD. They want girls with super high GPAs and are more open than other OR houses to extend bids to OOR PNMs. Just note that if you do get a bid from AGD, you will be expected to maintain a very high GPA throughout college. They are a very conservative, religious, studious house that is less social and "partying" than other houses. They are also pretty arrogant, in my opinion.

As OOR, I'd keep an open mind about all the houses because no PNM really has a say on what house they end up in. Its too competitive here and the houses make the decision.

Two OOR/OOS PNMs from my area accepted bids to AGD. They had zero connections to AGD or even Bama. They both were very nice girls, solid grades, Christian, and decent resumes. It was possible for them, so I would say you have a chance.

I don't want to say what year but: I went to AXO and a more mid tier house for pref. I liked both but ended up getting AXO. I was excited bc I ranked them first and felt good to be one of a few OOR girls to get in. It hasn't ended up being the experience I hoped for. Alot of the other girls in the house have a connection - they have friends of friends or family friends. There's also a lot of very religious girls. There's an expectation that you will strive to fit that image and I think it would have been different in the other house, where there's more different kinds of girls. I'm definitely sticking it out, I've had some good times, I just wish I really understood before rush what it would be like.

@ My experience, that was nice to share your experience with others. There is no way you would have known or understood before rush. Maybe if the whole process was different, you may have had a better idea. One quick week and the small amount of time spent in each house is just not enough to really know.
