Correct me if I am wrong but the system usually favors the PNM at pref.
If quota is 100 girls you have to be one of the first 100 girls on that bid list. If number 1 has you as 101 but number 2 has you at 69, you’ll get a bid to number 2. However if number 2 also had you at 101, you’d be “unmatched” but then get put as a quota addition to one of the houses. And I believe you’d go to your number 1 most likely in that situation.

Example

Quota Range is 10

You rank AAA #1
and BBB#2

On AAA list you are #10 and on BBB you are #1 you will end up with a bid to AAA because you still are in their quota range.

If your number 1 ranked house has you on their bid list listed above where the quota cut off is (let’s say you’re number 50 and the quota cut off is 140) then you will get your first choice even if your second house ranked you number 3 on their list. The only reason you’ll get your second house is if your first choice house hits their quota for a pledge class before they get to your name on the list.

Here's how it works: You rank your pref houses 1 and 2 and the houses rank all the pnm's on their bid list. The matching algorithm starts at the top of a house's ranked bid list and goes down in order trying to match with all pnm's who put them down as 1. If they hit quota during this process, that house is done matching. If they don't match to quota with all the pnm's who put them as 1, the algorithm continues and goes down the bid list again to try to match with the pnm's who put them as 2 to fill quota. Again, bid matching stops for that house when they reach quota. If you are high enough on your 1's bid list before they reach quota, you will get that bid. If you don't match with them, the algorithm will try to match you with your 2. If you are not high enough on your 2's bid list to match before they reach quota, then you will be a quota addition at either house. The algorithm will try to put you with your 1, but will also consider your place on both bid lists and the number of quota additions to be distributed. A quota addition is a just regular bid and no one knows these pnm's from any others. This system is how you are guaranteed a bid if you rank both your houses. If you only rank 1 of 2 (suiciding), and that house hits quota before they match with you, you are done and out of the process and will not get a bid. If you are only invited to 1 house for pref and you put them on your card, you will have a lovely restful night because you know where you are going on bid day.

Do houses invite twice as many PNMs to pref as what final quota will be?

By: Question?
by: yes

Yes , roughly

Yes, almost all of them do as long as Panhellenic calculated correctly to tell each house how many they had to release each round. They try their best for each house to have as close to even numbers as possible.

No there is an RFM number for each house. Stronger recruiting houses invite fewer, less strong invite more.

Went through rush in 2013, got a bid from my #2 house, became close with my big & the girl that rushed me at house #1. Both told me I was on their house’s quota list. Worked on Panhellenic years later and there is a system in some houses (house #2 in my case) where they can rank you as one of their top people & basically suicide YOU. That’s what happened in my case and it all worked out! You will end up where you belong :)

That made absolutely no sense. Also wasn't that when there were still 3 prefs?

I have worked as a rush advisor and there is absolutely NO WAY this situation happened. And definitely not in 2013 with RFM in place.

If you were on the top bid list for your #1, you would have gotten a bid there. Those girls probably just said that to make you feel better - usually the whole chapter does not know exactly who falls where on the bid lists. It’s usually just a small group of advisors + President, Rush chair, maybe rush team members.

That did not happen. If you got your 2nd choice, your first choice reached quota before your name came up. The computer then looked at your number 2 choice for you and you were high up enough on their list to get a bid before they reached quota.
