What are the odds you make it to pref round?? Is it common to get dropped completely before?

The rule of thumb is if they want to give you a bid/can see you as a member they invite you to pref round.

No it is not common at all. 93% of all pnm's get bids and the 7% that don't are mostly from dropping themselves out of rush.
