Difference between old row and new row?

by: Question

I'm planning on going to Alabama next year. I know not to take this site too seriously, but I am curious about something. I keep seeing on here rankings that separate "Old Row vs. New Row" and I'd like to know what the difference is between the two.

I'm from the north and most of my older friends go to B1G schools where that's not a thing, so I'm flying blind about this and could appreciate an explainer.

i will tell u the truth as an active member of greek life at Alabama and everyone else will try to fight me on this because they're rather a troll, a old ass person, or someone in an old row house to make themselves look more relevant than everyone else. NO ONE CARES ABOUT OLD ROW/ NEW ROW BEFORE OR AFTER RUSH!!!! ONLY DURING RUSH AND THE SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME BEFORE AND AFTER!!!

Yeah I don't really care about what your opinion is on the matter, I'm simply asking what is the difference between the two? What determines is one if old row or new row? Is there any meaningful difference?

Old row means they are sponsored by Budweiser. Doesn’t mean that they were all the first ones on campus, because ZTA is the second house on campus, but legally can’t be sponsored by alcohol.

Old Row gets a T-shirt and a party and all Old Row pays extra. New row doesn’t.
