Values-Based Recruitment

by: Newbie

Can anyone please give a pnm some clarity on values-based recruitment. I know some schools make you take a values assessment before recruitment. Other schools go on and on preaching about values-based recruiting. Then I read comments and hear people talk and joke about it. I just want some clarity on VBR. Is this a method to get a pnm to recognize what values are important to them and then the sororities try to match with pnms that align with their org's values? Is this just more talk to make people looking at sororities think there are other reasons why they select pnms than just say looks, style, and connections?

What you want in a sisterhood, how much grades matter to you, leadership opportunities, philanthropy and if their philanthropy interests you or you have a connection to it.

I will try and give my thoughts on this. IMO, I just think they have given recruitment a fancy name, VBR. Basically it is a method that helps create a genuine connection. A pnm will learn about a chapter, how they can grow with a chapter, and what a chapter represents. It gives an org time to show off their interests, values, and how they are viewed on campus. During recruitment a chapter shows what they are looking for and a pnm can also see what they may get out of a certain chapter. Each org gets a chance to show a pnm how they can flourish and grown in their sorority during the next four years. Of course you will make friends, but it is more than just that.

I would like to know what 17/18 year old PNM is asking about VBR. Unless you are in the mix of greek life that is not a term you throw around. I feel like this is a troll post.

Could be a troll post, but when you read about sorority recruitment anywhere you do see values-based recruitment. It has become a common term and it is really not explained.

There is a huge thread all about NPC rule changes and VBR. Makes sense that a PNM might have questions.

It also means for the actives we won’t be using pictures to vote on you.. purely based on convo and resume

DAMN THESE PEOPLE who pretend they are in a sorority. 'Pictures' have nothing to do with VBR. We don't vote on looks, we use photos to learn who is who way ahead of rush. When a pnm walks through our door we know who they are right away and at least three things about them so we can remember everybody and keep them straight.

You can tell trolls on here who have never been in a sorority. We don't select members based on their 'pictures.' Yes, looks play a part, but it's how pnm's present themselves in real life. No voting is done base on 'pictures' for god's sake.

Don’t know why you’re so pressed LOL… my house 100% used pictures at one point it wasn’t the only part of the process but it did effect voting cause didn’t matter who said what about her if she was pretty… but you know everything apparently

Plenty of pnm's have great instas and head shots and look amazing and then show up to rush looking nothing like their pics. Recruitment is in person for a reason. Photos aren't part of the voting process, they are for ID. But y'all go ahead and keep pretending you're in a sorority.
