I know sororities require a 3.0 gpa but if the Alabama recalculation of mine literally comes out to a 2.99 but I'm well rounded in a lot of other aspects of rush and have good recommendations will that .01 difference make them drop me automatically?

If you can't average a 3.0 in HIGH SCHOOL why would we think you'll be successful enough to balance COLLEGE and all that comes with a sorority? Sorry but there's no excuse for not making at least a 3.0.

To whoever wrote the above comment your a little b i t c h. The university admits people who have 2.6 so seriously a 2.99 isn't bad at all. You still have a semester of high school left so if the difference is a .01 then just work hard and your GPA will go up

Whatever. Call me whatever you want, but anyone who can be competitive in recruitment knows it's the truth. Anyone below a 3.0 BARELY stands a chance. And seriously, it's just sad to give someone false hope.

We literally have thousands of girls coming through recruitment and the only way houses are officially ranked is by grades, so honestly no we won't give you the benefit of the doubt and round up. When rush is this competitive the easiest way to cut girls is by something tangible like GPA below XYZ. Besides that 3.0 is the bare minimum. Most houses require a minimum of a 3.2 or above.

I'd suggest waiting a year and getting your grades up, or working your butt off this semester to make a minimum of a 3.3/3.4.

THIS^^^^ Sweetie is totally correct. I hear some houses won't look at you with under a 3.5.

Yeah I completely understand what you all are saying. My school does gpa based off of a grade out of 100 not on a 4.0 scale so when I was told I had an 86 I thought I would be fine. I only recently found out that the recalculation of my grade is under a 3.0. I guess I'll just try hard to bring it up that little bit more. Thanks for your input.

I was thinking you had a slightly less than a B average, which is terrible unless you went to New England prep school. I mean I had a 3.98/4, but an 86 sounds like it should be about 3.3 or 3.4

I wish it was. I thought the same thing but unfortunately the way 4.0 scale averages are calculated a B is about a 3.0 and mine came out to just under that. I was really surprised and now I'm so paranoid because I thought my gpa was going to be fine but now I feel like it hurt my chances so badly.

If you had an 86 on a 100 scale that's mostly As and Bs so to have less than a 3.0 doesn't make sense

I went to a New England prep school with a 3.2... Will that be equivalent to like a 3.5 alabama public?

By: New England
by: NO

Just because you went to a New England prep school doesn't mean you're better than a "lowly" public school! I went to one of the best public schools in the nation and it's in Alabama, so no, you're prep school gpa is equivalent to that of a public school.

Uh yeah, New England prep schools are way better than an Alabama public school. I'd say that equivalency is about right.

3.2? Is that a joke? You aren't even eligible for scholarships.

"If you go to a prep school, you'd think they'd teach you the importance of a decent gpa. Apparently not."

I'm sorry, I didn't even go to prep school but I'm dying at this comment. Most public schools have a thing called GRADE INFLATION. Good prep schools (most of which are in NE) do not have that. They also don't weigh honors or advanced classes.

It's just funny that you have actually believe that good prep schools and Alabama public schools offer the same academic rigor. Especially when you're making fun of someone's GPA when you go to the University of Alabama. Hahaha I'm dying.

I agree with the above. NE prep schools send the top 25% of their classes to ivys... How many alabama students get into Ivys... Like one Per high school MAYBE. a 3.2 is a mix of As and Bs and she could have taken honors and AP. Sorry but when did a mix of As and Bs in honors and AP become bad?!?!

...Believe it or not, I got into John Hopkins and Vanderbilt. They may not be Ivys, but they're damn good. The only reason I'm at Alabama is bc they pay me a great deal of money to go here. I've never paid a dime to this university. Also, I would like to point out that all of you came to Alabama. Probably because no Ivy would take a 3.2. Also, no "top 25%" of New England Prep School kids go to Ivys. That statistic came right out of your ass. It's not even mathematically possible.

Going into grade inflation, a lot of schools don't use grade inflation. The one I went to didn't. So again, please try and explain why a prep school is so much better? Just because you're rich and pretentious doesn't make you smart. Realize that sororities look at this website, so we can find idiots like you. My sorority would never take a New England-er with a 3.2 anyway.

Since you're too stupid/lazy to do a one minute Google search, here's a link:
matriculationstats(DOT)org/boarding-school-stats
At the top prep school, 27.8% of the graduating class went to an Ivy. Clearly, it's mathematically possible.

Yes, it will hurt you. My sorority automatically drops everyone below a 3.0 and I'm sure other sororities do as well. It's just a way to sort through girls very quickly. With 2000+ girls going through recruitment (many of whom will have perfect gpas and resumes), we have to get rid of the people who don't stand out as much. Hopefully you can use this semester to try and bring your gpa up that .01, but if you can't, you will probably be very disappointed. My advice to you if you can't get your gpa up would be to either take a semester to her adjusted to college and then do COB in the spring or wait and rush as a sophomore. Honestly, if you can't make a 3.0 in high school, then you have bigger problems to worry about than getting into a sorority, and I really mean that in the nicest way possible.

News flash people, without grade inflation the average grade is a C. If the average GPA at ur highschool is a 3.5 you know that's a problem. A 3.2 on a 4.0 scale is good without grade inflation so all you "elite" alabama girls with your 3.5-4.0 need to check yourselves

No one ever said a 3.2 is bad...we just said a 2.9 is! Yes, you will be dropped by 90% of sororities if you have a 2.9 because there has to be a way to judge girls and gpa is just the easiest way to do it.

Does having good SAT scores mean anything at all for recruitment or is it basically all gpa?
