Recruitment Nerves

by: girlyfromjersey

I'm - fingers crossed - hoping to attend Alabama next fall and planned to participate in sorority recruitment as a way to potentially make friends and hopefully some sisters, especially being from so far out of state. I have a 3.8, great extracurriculars, conventionally attractive and outgoing, but I'm also slightly nervous. I've gone to a Catholic school my whole life, so class sizes were always on the small side, and rush seems super overwhelming. This is all a long winded way of asking if being from NJ would be a major negative in any way, or if I should mentally prep to get dropped from certain houses now. TIA!

hey girl! my recommendation is to get in touch with as many sororities as you can. being from oos can be a positive if you act on it! the best way to do this is to post in the class of 26 facebook group or on one of the c/o 26 Instagram accounts. sorority girls are always looking through those for pnms that they can reach out to! this is my advice take it or leave it and good luck

i was in the exact same boat as you and i was nervous about this too. i would say to go into rush without expectations because that’s how girls often end up disappointed. i got dropped by houses that i really liked during rush (likely due to lack of connections and oos) and was upset at first but i’m sooo happy i ended up where i did! it’s cliche but definitely trust the process bc you will end up where you are meant to be even if you don’t see it right away. for now i’d just focus on getting letters of recommendation and follow all the houses on ig. rush is overwhelming but if you go in prepared to ask and answer questions you won’t have a problem. good luck you got this!! don’t stress

This is great advice, and makes me feel a bit better knowing you had a very similar situation. Thank you for responding! :)
