do legacies matter anymore?
by: bamar legacies a big deal anymore? my mom was in a sorority at alabama and i was wondering

Legacy is not a big deal any more at all because there are too many of them. Chapter legacy is a little different but only if there is still a strong connection between your mom and her chapter. How connected is your mom to her chapter alumnae group; does she donate to the chapter, or stay in touch with the other chapter alumnae who may be influential with recruitment committee and get your name on the radar? If not then you won't stand out that much. Connections to actives already in a house are far more important than legacy. It sounds like you may not be Alabama local, or you would already know where you stand.

As someone who has recruited for a house for two years now, they matter, at varying degrees based on the house. Being a legacy will help put you on the forefront of the houses recruitment, they will at the very least use the legacy to set you apart from other PNMS. It doesn’t mean you will get a bid tho

The super strong houses at Bama will always consider their legacies, even if nationally they got rid of the legacy policy. But they’ll really only pay attention to legacies thru Bama or another really chapter in the south. A mom who went to a small school in the northeast won’t carry the same weight as one who went to Bama/Ole Miss/Texas etc. At the same time, no one wants a pledge class of all legacies, so you’re almost competing with other legs to get those spots because strong southern houses could fill multiple PCs with their legacy numbers. It won’t get you a bid anymore, but it will get you looked at closer by the chapter…for better or worse.

same my house even scores legacies higher and you have to be careful with scoring bc if you accidentally score too high… you’ll get stuck with her since her score is too high to be dropped in later rounds lol
