Why don’t we have all NPC sororities?

by: Bama

Would be so cool if we had all the npc sororities here. Are there any schools that have them all?

There are some smaller NPC sororities that could never afford to build a competitive house here and don’t have the very strong Southern alumnae base to draw support from. Both would be critical for success here. But it’s a nice idea! We would be the first and only!

AXiD seems like the most likely choice since they have history here and an alumnae base. They struggled in the past, but that was before RFM. Plus they presented with APhi and DG, which they probably wouldn't have bothered to do if they didn't think they had what it took.

Tri Sigma is harder to say. Their oldest and strongest chapters are at smaller state schools. They have a chapter at Auburn, but they don't have the pressure of building a house.

The rest could work as alternative sororities, but the conditions would have to be right. PNMs would have to be open to them, and there would have to be evidence of an unmet need that SDT, ADX, and the UGC groups aren't filling on their own. (DPhiE presented about eight years ago; Kappa Beta Gamma and three multicultural sororities tried but never took off.)

I think a couple of the smaller sororities like DPhie and TriSig have presented in the past.

Not sure if they had enough money to build a new house and invest in tho.

Why don’t all the small NPCs just merge? Happened once decades ago

I mean, has anyone ever heard of Alpha Sigma Tau or Theta Phi Alpha?

by: No.

Think about how you would feel if someone forced your sorority to merge with another one. Which letters are kept? What traditions and secrets are kept and which are lost? Just because they’re smaller doesn’t mean they should lose their unique identity. It should be looked at with the same lense as asking Chi O and Kappa to merge: absolutely never going to and should never happen.

I have definitely heard of Theta Phi Alpha. They tend to be kind of niche based at small schools. It was founded in 1912, so came later to the NPC party. They have been opening a slew of chapters in the past decade, but mostly in the midwest and northeast. I think their time will come down the road though, as they continue to grow and spread.

I’ve heard of Theta Phi Alpha. Their nickname was “inflat-a-thigh” unfortunately. But that was at one school.

Theta Phi Alpha was founded as a Catholic sorority during a time when women of that denomination were unlikely to be offered a bid.
