Living at home??

by: ?

Ok just curious how weird it would be for someone who lives in Tuscaloosa, is going to Bama and plans on joining a sorority to plan to live at home?? Its a friend of a friend and I just think its weird. For example my cousin lives in midtown Atlanta, went to Georgia Tech and still in a dorm or apartment all 4 years. In fact her parents house was closer to campus than her apartment one year.

I don't think it's weird if her home is right in Tuscaloosa. On campus housing is expensive so maybe by living at home, she has the money to join a sorority. You don't know her or her situation so it really shouldn't matter to you.

All good as long as you can throw a darty/rager every so often.

I do think it is pretty weird. The kind of girl who joins a sorority here typically wants a typical college experience. Im from about 30 min away and my parents never even brought up living at home. I mean I had a hard enough time getting to my house for meals when I lived walking distance away in an apartment. You waste a ton of money missing out on meals.

On this topic - I’m a PNM from OOS and see that a lot of execs at OR top houses are from Tuscaloosa and am a little confused because as far I know, it’s one of the poorest towns in the (already poor) state. Are their dads all professors or like coaches? I’m just confused how you can be in a top sorority and be a townie

You don’t have to be filthy rich to be in a sorority, and being in a “top” house doesn’t really mean anything financially because they all cost around the same (give or take about 1000 a year). I’m middle class from oos and pay for my sorority myself, so idk how being from Tuscaloosa would affect their ability to pay. Most sororities probably see it as a huge bonus, because someone born and raised in Tuscaloosa probably has about a 0% chance of dropping out or transferring schools, and most likely has been raised on the expectation of going Greek. Pair that with their ability to have lots of connections in the “top” houses and it makes tons of sense
