Harm Reduction Needs to be more addressed

by: Serious

Chapters need to address harm reduction practices for their members. Yes, many of us take substances, most of us have never tested said substances. You need to address how to minimize these risks to the younger actives and pledges, have test kits on hand, have materials from organizations like DanceSafe, talk about chemical interactions specifically for members on medications like SSRIs. I don't want to lose anyone here for a preventable reason.

My freshman roommate almost died mixing a new antidepressant with alcohol. She was given blow too which made her be able to drink more.
My personal experience was I realized I was drinking wayyyy to much. I reached out to my board and basically was told i need to stop embarrassing myself and do more study hours

I agree that this would be very helpful and possibly even save lives, but unfortunately I think it would be a nationals issue for most if not all orgs. It would most likely be seen as encouraging substance use/abuse and underage drinking and would be a huge no no. Yes, sororities know their members drink, but they’re not supposed to really acknowledge it which kinda sucks. But that’s something that needs to be addressed and fixed at the nations level before chapters here could be able to get away with it

This is actually pretty smart, if you could get a psychology, public health, or nursing professor to give a presentation on harm reduction rather than a third party it might be easier to sell to IFC/nationals
