Anything over a 3.6 is recommended. If you have low grades, you'll take harsh cuts. Panhellenic has a chart showing how many predicted houses you'll get invited back to per day of recruitment if you have a certain GPA

If you have below a 3.6 expect harsh cuts first round. You will probably get an average of about 8 invites after first round if you have 3.5 and less if below that . If you are below a 3.4 expect maybe 3 or 4 invites after first round. After that the cuts won’t be as harsh. GPA cuts are usually made first round. If you are below a 3.2 if you don’t get dropped or drop you can probably get a snap bid.

A 3.6? My house’s cut off is one of the higher ones at a 3.3 and I’m not sure that we look at grades unless they’re below that, which is an automatic cut without a grade exemption. I’m also not involved so I don’t really know but that’s what my impression was

do recs help combat a low gpa at all?

By: recs
by: Well

@recs maybe if it’s from a National Officer or an alum with lots of pull in that chapter but not the average rec . For me I had a 3.5 from a private prep school with lots activities(cheer capitan, student council ) I had 9 after first round , 8 after second and preffed my top 2. One was my first chocie from day 1 and the other was one I didn’t think I would like but loved. Got my first chocie which is known as top tier house but honestly IMOP that is personal preference.

it’s all about how much effort you put into the house you DO get back though!!! just because you get less houses back doesn’t mean you won’t find your home. just don’t be picky and realize that the houses that DID invite you back, saw something in u! if houses drop u, it’s not meant to be and u probably wouldn’t have fit in best with them anyways! it’s not worth it to fight for houses that dropped u!!!! I didn’t prioritize the right things in my first two years of high school and no matter how hard i worked junior-senior year, it was too late to boost my gpa up a whole lot. i ended up rushing with a 3.3 gpa :/// and i got 5 houses back after the first round. i still ended up in one of my top choices! it’s all about how much effort u put in to the houses u have left!

this.^^^ DO NOT have ideas in ur head of which houses u want before rush. IT WILL ruin ur rush experience! take it from me. so many girls will say they regret having “fav houses” because all of rush u set yourself up to be in a house u don’t even belong in just bc u think u need to be in it. it’s the dumbest decision peopke make before rush.

How/where do you fill out that form if you had special circumstances affecting your GPA?

i didnt think there was one. i just went into rush without it. i had a not so good hs gpa and i still included my gpa on my resume and everything but i didn’t tell any of my rec letter writers why it was lower, and o didn’t tell panhellenic or fill anything out with why it was lower. (i had actual reasons including medical issues throughout hs causing me to miss lots of school) is there even an option to?? i was under the impression they aren’t interested in hearing excuses or reasons why.

I’ve had actives tell me that this was a possibility, maybe it depends on the house?

Wondering the same thing. I’m going to reach out to Panhellenic. I have extreme learning disabilities and battled extreme depression freshman-sophomore year. I maintained a 4.0 last semester but my gpa still sits at a 2.9 weighted. I don’t want my disabilities to define my rush experience.

Not really lol I had a 3.4 gpa and got a full schedule back for every round plus ended up in my top house

Right I thought GPA only hurt if you were under a house’s cut off, which is not a 3.5 or 3.6 for any house

Okay I’m not trying to freak you out. It does matter a lot I had a 3.2 for example and I took a lot of harsh cuts. Rush is going to be hard for anyone it’s a physically and emotionally draining process. Don’t stress about it though fr there is literally nothing you can do I had to come to terms with that. Make the most of every house you get! You will hear trust the process a lot and it gets sickening because everyone’s process is different and your roomie may have a great rush and your disappointed. Don’t let things you can’t control anymore stress you out you will find your place and if not re rush your sophomore year!
