If you could start over, would you still come to bama

by: help

I know this is a weird place to ask but I'm far OOR and don't know many people that are currently studying at Alabama. I really want to get that traditional college experience and I'm quite keen on schools in the south and greek life etc because my parents went to UGA.
So I guess I'm just asking for a bit of advice. IF you could start college over, would you still come to bama? Would you do anything differently in terms of rush/clubs/social stuff? What advice would you give to your high school senior self?

Honestly I would go somewhere else. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE bama and my friends and everything here. However, when I graduated high school I decided to come here over my DREAM college on the west coast because I was afraid of going too far away from home, but now I realise that being in that situation would've helped me mature and become more independent. I gave up my opportunity at one of the best schools in the country just to be "comfortable", and I feel like I've definitely missed out on things that I haven't been able to do here (like start over without my entire high school at the same college lmao) and specific internship opportunities etc. I would never transfer away from here, but if I could start over, I would just go straight to my dream college after high school.

This is kinda of a weird question, because I think everyone always wonders “what if” it looks at the greener grass somewhere else.

I was born and bred to go to school here and I have thrived and absolutely love it. But I do sometimes wonder what life would have been like at other schools? I don’t know if I would pick somewhere else but I would definitely spend more time making my decision.

I have to say Bama “outperformed”.

Two siblings went here as well.

Here’s the pluses: Bama provides many career and professional opportunities. Yes, you have to work and find them, and some people fall through the.cracks and get by on weak majors and non participation, but if you try Bama has a great alumni network and many opportunities in medicine, business, engineering, and performing arts. The social life (and Geeekmlife particularly) is like few other schools. The weather is pretty good. And the football is “the best”.

If you come here and party too much - we’ll that’s fun too and not many places better for that!

If you sit on the sidelines and don’t get involved, don’t get good grades, don’t enjoy the social benefits and don’t get school “spirit” - only one to blame is yourself.

Smaller schools may be better for some people. And if that’s you, then Bama may not be your best choice.

I’m an advocate. Great place. Great school. My family all glad we made it our choice and we are OOR!

Only because I went for free. Bama is great but if I didn't go for free I probably would have stayed in state and went to a more prestigious school. I still graduated with an engineering degree and work for a startup in a large city so I don't feel like bama limited me. You do need to make an effort academically to do more than just show up if you want a good job imo. The social scene at bama was fun, I was a in a new row frat so I had northern friends who had aspirations to move to big cities and such.

This ^^^. As someone born and bred in alabama, if you're ever considering living/working in a big city it is so important to make friends with OOR students!! I joined an old row sorority and have lived here my whole life, I used to feel super limited because it seemed like most of the people I hung out with never had any aspirations other than to stay in bama and be a stay at home mom and marry their HS bf. Super important to surround yourself with people who have similar ambitions to you :)
