Delta Kappa Epsilon (1847), Phi Gamma Delta (1855), Sigma Alpha Epsilon (1856), Sigma Nu (1874), and Sigma Chi (1876) were the first 5 fraternities founded at UA. Several current “new row” fraternities were on the old row in location. The “Old Row” designation as we know it today is more about the fact that this group chose to set funds aside for a party to only include the fraternities that they believed were on the same level of “prestige” versus when they were founded or located on campus. The “old row” sororities really weren’t involved other than they were the ones that this group chose to invite to the party. Except for Phi Mu that was invited later on which is an entirely different story. Kappa Sig was on the old row in location and has a deep history on campus but was not included in the Old Row parties.
