Rushing From Far Oor & Want 2 Be Realistic
by: pnmhi y’all, i’m a pnm from far out of region/not the south & don’t know anyone at bama, but am hopefully coming here next fall!! i’m a little worried about rush, if i have a 4.0, was dance team captain, business club president, asb officer etc, a good sense of style, cute insta & good personality will i be okay? are there any sororities that for sure won’t take me without a connection? is mid tier the highest “tier” i could get (ik it doesn’t matter but i don’t want to fall in love with a house during rush that doesn’t want me)? thanks!!

There isn’t a single sorority that won’t take girls without connections. I pledged an OR house from oor that is known for being popular with in state girls. Pledge classes are big and there is room for everyone. The biggest thing would be just being likable. There’s literally 1000 other girls coming through with hs accomplishments just like yours so if you’re a cute, fun girl who is easy to talk to then you should do well. That is really all these sororities are looking for when you get down to it.
Also a lot of girls come in expecting to have their pick of the litter and they don’t get it. If you have a full card every round then you have done very well

Top versus mid tier means that the “top” houses are where the local, connected, Alabama (and some neighboring state) girls are.
But about half of new students are from out of state these days.
The experience in mid houses isn’t any less, other than there aren’t as many girls/parties with people from those “local” high schools/areas.
So coming from OOS/OOR these rankings really don’t mean much.
Not saying you should avoid old row where the locals congregate, but it definitely isn’t going to be as important to you as those who post all the ranks here. Mid ranked and new row can offer just as many good options, maybe more for someone like you. \n\n\n\n\n

I'm from OOS and am in a house that's mid/low according the posts on here, but it was the house I wanted from the beginning because at Bama it has a rep for having smart solid girls, and it's the top house at the big state school in my home state. It's all BS. I didn't know anyone, had good grades, cute insta, dance background etc. and had a lot of cuts first round but none after that.
I've had a great experience, love my house and how diverse it is. It will be what you make of it. The more active and involved you are, the better your experience will be.

honestly, with everything you listed you do not have to be worried about rush. try to get recs in if you can. this site is extra af and makes it seem like oor girls aren’t in OR, but pc’s are huge nowadays and there certainly OOR girls in every pc. when you go thru rush you’ll see the ways that this site is right very rarely and mostly wrong af. besides, you might find yourself disliking “top” or OR houses bc every PNM is different. don’t try to fixate on where your personality or “type” might fit best bc at the end of the day, all houses have all kinds of girls and what matters is how your rush goes.
