Phi Mu

by: ??

I saw another post about the founding dates of some sororities and Phi Mu was founded a lot earlier than many others... if they were founded early, why do they lack a strong nation presence? (For example, ADPi and Theta were 2 of the first sororities and now they’re 2 of sororities with the most chapters).

They didn’t expand until much later.

Phi Mu and ADPi are the first two secret societies for college women, but they didn't go national or adopt Greek letters until the early 1900s.

I don't think you really count the sororities that were some weird club first then decided they might as well be a sorority.

But they were literally the first organizations that we now consider sororities... just because the term “sorority” wasn’t coined at the time doesn’t negate the fact that they were still exclusive organizations for women, modeled after literal fraternities.
