Unpopular opinion but I really like KD’s

1) pi phi because it’s sleek and streamline
2) kappa for similar reasons
3) zeta because it’s large and just looks fancy (imo!) than the rest
3) DG because I love a consistent nautical theme
4) Chi Omega for the skull

I absolutely hate TriDelts because of the stars

zeta’s is small

I think XO and AGD have the best ones because they have greenery around the crest. Makes it look more feminine.

I love the badges that have the sorority's symbol like Pi Phi, Kappa, DG, AXO.
I don't like the badges with letters like A Phi, Chi O and AGD.
The worst badge by far is AOPi's.

Eh, I think AOpi's is fine. I like it better than like Kappa's, which doesn't look professional

How tf do y’all know what all the other sororities’ badges look like hahaha

By: Dang
by: ^^^

If you just google “sorority badges,” there are pictures with all sorority badges... not that time consuming... also would you prefer this post be negative? Would you prefer petty gossip? People are talking about badges, it’s literally one of the least harmful posts on this site. Stfu and move on.

What is typical to spend on a badge?

I see new and some very cool vintage badges.

Prices are all across the board.

What is “typical”?

In my pledge class most of my friends just bought the cheapest one. I wanna say it was no more than like 200 I really can’t remember though. Some legacies used their mother’s or grandma’s badge. It was mostly legacies who splurged on the expensive badges

My house gave us badges for free

by: Seriously?

They gave them to you for free? Tf I distinctly remember having to pay for mine it was a few years ago though. And I remember picking the cheapest one from the catalog it maybe have been $125 but it was not under $100 that’s for sure. We’re talking about what they pin on us at initiation right?

By: Seriously?

Some groups pay for the basic badge in the initiation fee, so it seems free but it's paid for. You can pay extra for a fancier badge if you want.

This is incorrect. Delta Zeta’s lamp badge was also originally designed by Tiffany & Company, along with badges of other groups. It was on display in the New York store and in D.C. at the Smithsonian and it won a design competition years ago. Many badges today are made by Herff Jones.

I think the idea of incorporating symbols into badges is cool but some badges just don’t look good with it...

Pi Phi (arrow) and Kappa (key) don’t look classy. DG (anchor) looks weird, the nautical theme is too much. DZ (lamp) and AXO (lyre) are okay, not overkill. Theta (kite), ADPi (diamond), and Phi Mu (quatrefoil) are really nice and sleek.

Also why does Tri Delt have a crescent moon and stars for their badge when the crescent moon is GPhi’s symbol??

by: Hmm

I think the key is really cute for kappa. And I like the arrow for pi phi too.

nah they key and arrow are childish and don’t look traditional.

I agree. The DG badge looks so odd with the shield shape in the middle. I've always thought their nautical theme is tacky.

Agree. They need to give up the nautical theme a little bit. It’s not 2012.

Funny how you don't think Kappa's and Pi Phi's badges look traditional when they are two of the oldest groups out there and the first to go national. Basically they set the standard for what badges looked like in the beginning and other groups varied from that.

Dude all I’m saying is that I don’t like their badges... it’s really not that deep.

Also GPhi, DG, APhi, and Theta were all founded before Kappa and Pi Phi.

Kappa was founded before Gamma Phi. The word sorority was coined for Gamma Phi Beta.

Now this thread shows that what we have is a bunch of non-Greek trolls on here. Here is the real order of founding:
ADPi 1851 (but did not go national until after 1900)
Phi Mu 1852 (also did not go national until around 1900)
Pi Phi 1867 (started expansion in 1868)
Theta Jan. 1870 (also expanded soon after founding)
Kappa Oct. 1870
APhi 1872
DG 1873
Gamma Phi 1874

All these people who say that Kappa is older than Theta or that anyone other than ADPi and Phi Mu is older than Pi Phi does not know what they are talking about. (Don't trust me -- then look it up. It's not hard.) Also while Pi Phi, Kappa, and Theta all knew about each other early because they were all founded in the Midwest and started expanding right away, people did not know about ADPi and Phi Mu (despite their earlier founding) because they stayed local in GA for about 50 years before expanding.

So you don't like Pi Phi's and Kappa's badges. Fine. You have bad taste, but don't make up false history to suit your narrative.

So I know ADPi was the first sorority but why do Theta, KD and Gamma Phi also say they were the first?

By: First?

There are different variations of the term “first.” ADPi was the first “society for women.” GPhi was the first sorority that coined the word “sorority.” And Theta was the first “Greek fraternity known among women” and they were also the first to use Greek letters.

Ultimately, it’s they claim different “firsts” because it sounds nice and prestigious.

Theta’s badge is based off of fiji’s. I like it. It’s one of the ones that big enough to see and the chevron stripe is pretty.

That's interesting. I didn't know that!
The greek letters Alpha Omega Omicron is on the Theta badge and the Kappa badge!
