No, in my opinion it’s harder for in state girls with no connections to get into an OR house than it is for out of state girls with no connections.

It’s looked at as “suspicious” that a girl is in state with no recs vs a OOS girl with no recs.

which is honestly super sad because if an in-state girl is the first in her family to go greek she might not realize how important it is to get rec letters or she might not know anyone that could write any for her.

Maybe but I feel like it’s pretty hard to not know about rec letters if you’re from Alabama. It’s kind of hard to not know about if you’re out of state, eventually you come across it when researching about rush. I think everybody I talked to during rush knew about rec letters beforehand

i never said that they didn’t know about rec letters i said they might not realize how important they are. there’s a huuuuge difference. a lot of girls coming into rush know about recs but don’t realize how essential it is to have a rec to be invited back to certain houses.

Get as many recs per sorority as you can. My mom had me get 4 each plus more for those sororities I especially liked. I love how everyone assumes that some alumna actually wrote one for you and didn’t forget. Oops!

Four plus is overkill. You do not need that many just get 2 for each house

It’s not embarrassing on its own. It’s embarrassing if you were blacklisted from every house or something yeah but that’s not usually the case

I’ll let you answer....

You rushed houses where many “friends” got accepted and where there are a lot of girls from your hometown, HS, Church, etc

None of them gave you a bid.

How do you feel?

That being said - If you come here not knowing many/any people in Greek life, no big deal or emotions. All houses do offer a great experience.

Some girls don’t want HS grade 13+ and make an effort to avoid it.

Agree though, that if you want “in” and get overlooked, it can be difficult.

Very true but even if that’s not what you’re looking for, it would still hurt to get cut by girls you knew in high school
