The cut off for all is 3.0 I’m pretty sure. Idk about sdt and sk because I’m old and haven’t done rush with them there. So yeah probably none unless you have a girl you know in the house who is pulling for u

It won't matter who's pulling for you in houses if your GPA is below what a sorority's nationals have set for a requirement. They just can't.

Not in my house. I’m an OR house that takes a solid handful of grade risks every year. Maybe even a dozen. I am 99% sure other OR houses accept grade risks too because how could all of their bffs from high school join. Nationals has to approve our grade risks and so does our chapter but we take them.

Id recommend trying to get your grades up freshman year and then rushing in your sophmore year, I don't think any house can take a girl with grades below a 3.0

Grade risks are any girl below what each house sets. Most houses ask for 3.2-3.3 as their minimum. 3.0 is considered a grade risk for those houses. Some will go as far as 2.7. But, these are deep exceptions. Most grade risks need an explanation from a rec writer or in-house member as to why those grades are not reflective of this PNM ( family member or PNM had a medical illness, etc) going forward.

I would suggest waiting until your sophomore year. Concentrate on college your freshman year. You can still have fun and many girls ( even in Tut) in the dorms won’t be in Greek life. Join a club. GPA’s for current students are weighed differently. A 3.1-3.3 freshman year is considered equal to a 3.4-3.5 HS GPA. All houses are accepting of sophomores, especially when in house members know the member from their classes or the dorms.

every house takes grade risks but i wouldn’t count on you having your best picks. you have to rush really well and/or have friends in house bc we have to explain to nationals why we’re making an exception for you since grades usually warrant an automatic drop in most houses.

Yeah so if you don’t know girls, not just know them but know that they will put in a good word for you and stick their necks out to get you in, you probably will get cut

I don't know why so many people are being judgemental. This person could've dealt with mental health issues/unfortunate circumstances or just simply doesn't test well. We all know the high school education system needs work and isn't a true measure of intelligence. Grades don't define your character.

With that being said - 2.9 is definitely on the lower end, but it's definitely not the lowest gpa that's been recruited. Just because you're a grade risk doesn't mean you'll be dropped. There's a lot more to a person than their grades and the sorority that you end up in will see it.

All very true but sadly that’s just not how it works. There are so many girls coming through rush and grades are important to sororities. Sure there are reasons for poor grades, and that’s why houses can still take grade risks. If this girl doesn’t know someone to write a letter for her, the house will never know if she had personal issues or if she was just lazy and didn’t try. And with that gpa, options are going to be extremely limited. Bad grades are one of the main reasons for girls not getting bids at all. It would be smart to wait a year, and get on top of her grades without having to deal with all of the responsibility and time commitment of being in sorority.

Genuine question...

To the people saying that houses need to justify bidding a grade risk to nationals, what do you say? Like how do you justify it especially at a huge school like UA where there are quite literally hundreds of other PNMs who have better grades?

So many possibilities. Eating disorder, sick family member, bad family life, etc. honestly it feels like more of a formality than making an actual decision on whether or not this girl has a real and true excuse for a poor gpa

So you basically make up an excuse to give to nationals?

it is not impossible but if you're a sophomore in college then your chances in getting 5-8 houses are high. if you're an incoming freshman obviously your chances will be lower! i was able to get in a house with a gpa that was around yours, granted i am a sophomore.

I was honestly wondering the same thing. I have around the same gpa right now (haven’t submitted application yet) but senior year is going really well so far and I know I can boost my gpa. Will the gpa I submit my application with matter once I’ve sent my updated gpa when rush registration opens?

I had a gpa similar to yours (just a bit higher than a 3.0) and was dropped by many houses(only had 2 each round) but still got into one at the end of the week. I was a pretty average looking pnm and had tons of involvement and all of my recs. (This part is going to suck but it happens) but I knew girls who were absolutely gorgeous and had a way lower gpa than me and got full cards every round. I think you should at least try to raise your gpa up this year and try to get all A’s if you can to raise it as much as possible. Try to make connections with girls already in the house and try to get as much rec letters as you can!
