You are dropped if your mom is not well liked by the powers to be that control the house.

You end up in the new row house that is better than the old row house. You have a better college experience for being in the new row house. Because you don’t have to put up with toxic crap in the old row house.

And the old biddies in the old row house are still busy trying to harass and control other people and wind up losing because Mom writes a tell all book and makes bank off their hate.

Im not from the south. What do “moms” have to do with a college sorority?? And why is that only in old row?

Old Row houses are southern majority, meaning the majority of girls are from the south, specifically the deep south. A lot of the southern girls are direct legacies at these houses, meaning their mothers, aunts, sisters, grandmothers also went to Bama and pledged XYZ sorority...

So this is where the “moms” (alumni) come in. There’s a lot of pressure to appease them as opposed to embracing change. This creates a lot of contention within Old Row houses because there’s a significantly bigger presence of active alumni who have their rigid opinions.

I’m in an OR house with very heavy alum presence and it literally doesn’t matter. The only time they’re there is during rush and they don’t have anything to do with voting or the process of cutting girls. And it’s really helpful to have them coordinate and help with decorations and all that stuff during rush too... it’s not a bad thing to have alum presence. I’m not a legacy or even from the south it’s just helpful

You get dropped for not wearing a life jacket when you go drunk boating. As in you “get dropped” over the edge of the dam.

The concept of being "dropped" is so weird in recruitment. You could have a great conversation and experience with a girl at a certain house, and she could also love you, but the way the numbers end up working between both the house and Panhellenic just don't work out and so you get "dropped". That's why they always tell sorority actives not to "bid promise" or say "see you tomorrow" because the way numbers work out are so weird and one girl really can't guarantee you anything.

Having a sucky personality is one reason

Grades, bad reputation, weird conversation

But like others said - there are many who have awesome conversations but because of the way the numbers work slip through.

- Grades
- Reputation
- Personality
- Lack of recs

If you have poor grades and a sketchy reputation you’ll most likely end up in Zeta or Alpha Phi.

Quit trading on such outdated stereotypes. Good looking does not equal loose.

However, it is probably a fact that mean spirited and basic may not turn heads.

Less common but in addition to things said above, GPA being very high in combination with a difficult major (ex- engineering)

May not necessarily happen depending on how badly the house wants a girl pre-rush but often girls are assumed to be boring by ‘party’ houses and they’d rather have a girl who’ll party any day of the week with them than someone staying home to study. You can also just avoid reminding the girl of your major during conversation.
If you’re ‘smarter’ and more academic based I wouldnt worry about this as an issue because the houses that’d drop over this wouldn’t be a great fit anyways.

other than reasons already mentioned - embarrassing your sorority in some way

How does a pnm embarrass “her” sorority?

I think what the person was trying to say is that some PNMs may be dropped due to possible risk... So we may drop girls who seem like they might “embarrass” the house in some way. This can include poor high school reputation (obviously more relevant to PNMs who actually know actives), poor social media presence (ex. excessive party/drinking pics), etc...

Bad grades, bad rep, you did something embarrassing that people know about

An alum wrote a no-rec that was verified or taken seriously.

You thought you were too cool in high school and were rude to the wrong girl ...one with an older sibling, mom with influence, etc

They think you will for sure pledge another house

They don’t think you’d be a fit but probably still think you are nice, etc

Kaylee Baker is a great example that you can easily be dropped from essentially all houses despite being “cute” and having lots of followers

Nothing is wrong with zeta and gamma phi...... and nothing is wrong with KB either she just would not have done well in a sorority with so many rules about how to act and what to post. She does her own thing why is the website so obsessed with a girl who rushed over 2 years ago and has never been Greek?

She was dropped from zeta first round because they didn’t want her and and still wanted them and couldn’t control because older actives didn’t like her
