I’m a little worried for them if they seriously only got 5. Nationals might pull them for that, it’s not uncommon for chapters to close unfortunately .

I think nationals may be holding on since they are a single letter chapter, hope their nationals can support them more and help then grow, shutting down would be so sad.

Also it takes more than one year of getting less than normal PC sizes. SDT has always operated with fewer members than the rest of us. It’s gonna take more than a single digit PC for them to leave.

this chapter has been on campus since 1935 and never shut down. they used to be on row, had a drop in membership and got pushed off of row. they once dropped down to 10 members and weren’t shut down, most likely because they’re a single letter chapter and they’re nationals supports them. this chapter has fought to grow to the point they’re at now and were close to moving back onto row a few years ago but their nationals would make the shift. personally i think that was a really bad call, but the number they’ve been told is 125 so they’re trying to grow to that size so they can move back on row.

It’s interesting they were up to around 90 members just a few years ago, and are now back down to around 50. They got so close. Wonder what the issue really is.

Very surprised they only got five. If quota was 110, you’d conservatively guess they’d carry at least 50-80 to pref. If only five accepted a bid, then many many girls declined. I think this will be the last straw for SDT as for years, the big question has been “what would happen if SDT went through a full formal recruitment?” Well, now we have our answer. And instead of doubling their chapter size, they did worse than if they just did their normal informal recruitment. I think they’re best bet is pulling the charter and trying to recolonize in a decade.

I’m almost positive their quota was not 110. They would not be able to handle 110 girls with no outside help from other sdt chapters/nationals. Their plan to do formal was way too last minute to expect them to have a MC of 110. I think what happened is they just needed to do any type of recruitment and did it during formal because figuring out how to do virtual recruitment without panhel would be impossible. They always get plenty of girls with COB and I’m sure they’ll get their usual numbers with girls who never even went through recruitment.

Sorry but SDT has struggled forever. They should continue to do their own thing, which is informal, or leave.

To bring down PCs, we should look at bringing in another national org.

I really thought that having them participate in formal recruitment would be the sort of re-booting that they need to stay viable. I was worried about how they were going to handle having a new member class that out-numbered their current membership. I wonder if having all the PNMs sitting around in their dorms all day made the "tent talk" worse.

Truly it came down to planning and resources, SDT didn’t plan to “recolonize” themselves to match the rest of us this year. So they got what they got. Doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be successful in the future given the proper resources from their nationals and TIME.

I'm curious as to why Alabama chose to recolonize SDT over bringing in AXID or Tri Sigma instead? Both AXiD and Tri Sig have a strong presence already at southern schools & have top tier nationals & regional consultants.

Jan,

Oh ok. So they just haven't pulled the trigger to shut it down and recolonize in a few years?

They’re not shutting down, it’s always been theorized here that if they could just get a situation to come into formal recruitment the way SK did it DG years before, they’d be at our level.
But 1. They don’t seem to want to/have the numbers to 2. Their nationals would need to fundraise like crazy.
Like it just wasn’t the plan this year. And them only getting 5 is due to the girls who do formal recruitment not being their usual crowd that they recruit. So idk if it truly messed them up or if we do in fact stay on campus long enough for them to recruit they will get their usual crowd.
