is alabama worth it
by: hsi’m a out of state senior in hs right now and just visited ua this past week and am wondering if it’s worth going there as i don’t think i will qualify for any merit scholarships and it will cost me lots of $. one of the main reasons i want to go to ua is because of the huge greek life and i love the southern culture but i only have a 3.0 (hoping to get all a’s this year but don’t know how much that will bring up my gpa probs to 3.1 or something) i know my gpa is not going to help during recruitment and i will be dropped automatically for (most??) classes. do you think it’s worth going and spending all the money to come to alabama or should i consider getting my gpa up my freshman year and rushing sophomore. sorry i know this isn’t usual posts but i figured it a good time to ask because greekrank is active right now. also for the girls that are rushing right now have any of u had success with a gpa similar to mine?

If you were majoring in Business, you’d know there are great schools for business, good schools for business, and the rest. Alabama is in that last catagory. Next time you troll, pick something different.

What has happened in the first part of high school to impact your grades? Are you studying enough? Do you have an undiagnosed learning issue that should be addressed during your final year of high school? If you have never had straight As in the past, you are unlikely to get them this year if nothing changes.

i worked on my grades last year and was able to get a 3.6 while also working so i think it’s possible for me to get a 4.0.

If you were to rush as a sophomore at Bana your options would still be limited due to your class status. Bama doesn’t even have an upperclassman quota anymore, which used to make things more fair for sophomores going through. So I wouldn’t recommend waiting until sophomore year actually.
What have you got going on in terms of activities/extracurriculars?

thanks i was wondering how much rushing as a soph would affect my chances of getting a bid! in terms of extra curriculars i’ve done a couple different things but never really stuck with them only did them for one year. i am apart of a club at my school and also have had a job for the last two years so idk if that would help at all. i also like to volunteer a decent amount

tbh i think it might be a bit less and was also thinking i wouldn’t be able to get my gpa up as much with the classes i’m taking. going to try and calculate what my gpa would be if i were to do good next year. thanks :)

Also will depend on how many AP classes you plan on taking this year...that grade boost could take you above a 4.0.

Even if your high school does not give extra weighting for AP classes, the GPA that sororities will see for rush is your high school GPA as recalculated by the University of Alabama and reported on your myBama, which will give extra weighting to AP classes.

idk if ur trolling but i’m planning on majoring in business which is something i could do at any school??? it’s just a plus that alabama has huge greek. ur being a bi and for what??
