Does being from the north really matter
by: NeedtoknowOK so what’s the actual Tea?? So many people say that being from the north shouldn’t affect your chances at rush but if in reality does it actually? Are there biases put on from people because they’re from the north during rush and why?

Yes, it does. Not being from Alabama there will be bias against you during recruitment because "Old Row" sororities prefer PNMs from AL, many of whom have connections. These sororities are the ones that are ranked as "top" on this site by their members and crazy alumnae who stalk this website.
If you're out of state (but still in the southern region), that is going to affect your rush. If you're out of state and out of region, that is also going to affect your rush.
It just is what it is. Nothing you can do about it other than get off this site, ignore the rankings, and be open to every single house on this campus. Trust me, every house on this campus is amazing.

Of course it matters. There are less girls from the North that come down here, so you will have little to no connections in each house, where in-state girls will know a girl everywhere they go. That being said, it will NOT hinder your chances with getting the house you want. In the end, that is up to how well you present yourself and click with the girls. I am from the Northeast and I preffed two old row houses the year I rushed. Am I one of very few girls from my region in my house? Yes. Am I looked down on by other girls because of it? Probably. But you ultimately control your rush experience, not your home town.

So do girls that are out of state but still from the south have a better chance of getting those houses over girls who are out of state and out of region?
