wondering abt rush

by: incoming

hey guys ik this is kinda off from regular posts here but i figured it’s a good time to ask because the discussion board is decently active rn... i’m hoping to go to ua next year and also rush but how important are grades for joining? i have a 3.0 rn would that be an issue to most sororities? also are u guaranteed a spot in a sorority? like no matter what will u have a house to run home to (whether u like them or not)? thanks

a 3.0 is the minimum panhellenic average i think but most house have higher requirements so you would be a grade risk and dropped by most houses first round. you are not guaranteed a bid at UA

It’s recommended that you rush with a 3.2 because that is almost all houses gpa requirement. The only house I think that has a 3.0 requirement is SK. I would say try this year to get you gpa up if it isn’t a 3.2 by rush then expect a lot of cuts.

i’m in a “top” old row house & we cut at 3.3 so just something to consider!

if you’re in high school then you will be dropped by half if not more houses but if you’re an upperclassman then that’s like the average requirement to join

I had a 3.2 and only got 3 houses back after open house round. But I also knew girls with a 3.0 who got a full Cards backs. Honestly i would really try to get that gpa up so you are able to have more options. Also make sure you have rec letters and a great resume!

Each chapter’s “recommended” GPA for potential new members:

Alpha Chi Omega: 3.4
Alpha Delta Pi: 3.2
Alpha Gamma Delta: 3.4
Alpha Omicron Pi: 3.2
Alpha Phi: 3.0
Chi Omega: 3.0
Delta Delta Delta: 3.2
Delta Gamma: 3.0
Delta Zeta: 3.4
Gamma Phi Beta: 3.1
Kappa Alpha Theta: 3.2
Kappa Delta: 3.2
Kappa Kappa Gamma: 3.33
Pi Beta Phi: 3.3
Phi Mu: 3.3
Sigma Delta Tau: 2.75
Sigma Kappa: 3.0
Zeta Tau Alpha: 3.2

I think there is some confusion here w the word recommended. To my knowledge no chapter has a 3.4 minimum, but a 3.4 may be recommended. Minimums tend to be 3.2-3.3 like others have said.

But basically looking at this you can clearly see how a 3.2+ will open doors for you.

You might consider this as you make your college choice this year. If you choose Alabama or another college that has formal recruitment in the fall, those high school grades are going to limit your options. If you choose a college with January formal recruitment, sororities will be looking at your first semester college grades instead and you get a second chance at a stronger GPA.
Everyone above is right...you need to study hard this year to boost your GPA.
